There's a roughly 1cm thick black wire with a yellow stripe coming from a thick wire loom that also contains the car's postive wires.  Right now the negative terminal of the battery is connected to the firewall and the car runs.

I wasn't sure if this wire is supposed to attach to the negative terminal of the battery.  I tried looking at engine bay pics but I couldn't see it.

The car is a 95 AWD 5SPD.

I don't have a 2g, but I can try to help if I can.

so one end goes to the POSITIVE terminal?  and where does the other end go to?

see if you can find out where the other end goes, it may give you some clue.

or maybe someone with a 2g will post and your question will be answered.

also, if you plan on keeping the car, maybe getcherself a manual?  at least the CD manual?  Thats cheap.

Sounds like one of the ground wires that is supposed to go to the body of the car. All my wires that go from the negative terminal to the body are black with a yellow stripe.
