A friend of mine is doing a swap for a customer at a local shop. The car is a 92 talon dx. The new 2.0 turbo engine is in with a new ECU and wiring harness, but the car wont start. The problem is the fuel system. The fuel pump isnt turning on at all. We installed a new relay and still no progress. The stock 1.8 pump is being used and it worked well before the swap. All of the electrical is good. We thought it might be the ECU so we tryed it in my  car and had no problems really. One thing was weird though, I had no vacuum at first with his ECU. Could this be the prob and if so what would cause this.

What year is your car, Scott? 90?

There are subtle differences in the ECU from 90 to 91.  Typically, 91-94 are basically the same.  Have you tried using your ECU in his car?  The only obvious thing regarding the fuel pump that I can think of would be to verify whether the pump is actually receiving power.  Grab your circuit light and verify.

I'm not sure, and can't seem to find further info on vfaq or 1000q ... but seeing as the 1.8L never came with a turbo option, maybe the ECU is sending a signal the fuel pump simply doesn't recognize.  Or the ECU can't properly communicate with the 1.8L's fuel pump.  I have no supporting info for this, but I know that if I were to throw in a 92 TSi engine into a body of a car that had a 1.8L SOHC engine, I wouldn't use the MAS, fuel pump or ecu.  The ECU is blindingly obvious, but wouldn't the MAS and fuel pump go with this? Hell, under moderate mods, normal TSi's rewire their fp anyways.

Good luck.

We put in a 90 ECU with the turbo engine. All of the 1.8 parts are out of the car. The car now has the turbo MAF, sidemount, BOV, etc. It is a complete engine out of a 90 talon that is now in a 92.

How did you wire the 1.8 FP to the 2.0 ECU?

you could just find the 1.8 original fuel pump wire and use it as a trigger wire for a relay to a big wire and a turbo pump.

Or is that the prob, you can't find the wire that the 1.8 ecu is energizing??
