now i've had valve lifter tick whichever u call it for almost a year now and im sick of it, could it be just a carbon build up or am i going to have to go under the hood and change the valve/lifter...wichever is making this annoyingly loud TICK TICK TICK.... i know its common in most dsm's but how hard is it to get rid of. is this something i should be buying myself and throwing in on a saturday afternoon??? anyhelp would be appreciated.

oh and im not the most confident when it comes to working under the hood of a talon becuase i know the slightest mistake could spread fast...atleast i assume.

If you want it gone, never to come back, going to a 3g lifter is a common fix. It really isn't that hard to fix. If I can remember correctly vfaq has a proceedure on it.

ok, yes, if you want to get rid of it, you have to change the lifters.

No, its not super easy, especially if you are new to working on these engines.

read the procedure and understand it really well.  Anything to do with valve timing on these(and any other interference engines) is a bit more serious in that you can't make a mistake or its game over.  Mr Piston, meet Mr Valve.  x16.

now, don't get discouraged, if you have the time and a good clean, well lit place to work and all the correct tools and supplies, well go ahead, but just don't take it at all lightly.

well this sounds like something i'd screw up or would take me a full weekend...maybe ill buy the lifters and just get someone to install them for me...take the easy way out, thanks for the help though
