i was just wondering if anyone has or has had a small 16g and how it performs. And if there is any difference in the performance of the big 16g compared to the small 16g?

Yes there is a difference.  Although very slight difference.  This is comparing the Mitsubishi small 16G versus the Mitsubishi big 16G.  The small 16G goes for 600 us and the big 16G goes for 650 us.

Flow Rates @ 15psi:
TDO5H-14B-6CM2 405 CFM
TDO5H-16G-7CM2 505 CFM
TDO5H-16G-10CM2 505 CFM

Max Output:
TD05-14B (stock 1st gen) 275-300hp @ 21 psi
TD05-16G (small) 345-365hp @ 22 psi
TD06-16G (large) 365-385hp @ 22 psi

The evo big 16G is what most people tend to go for.  It is also usually the cheapest of the three and it goes for around 550 us.

I have a small 16G, but I'm almost pushing it to its limits now. I like it though.

It spools really fast and it'll hold 20 psi to redline. It's flowing around 32-33 lbs at 20 psi so thats around 325 horspeower I guess.

My boost gauge only goes to 20 psi and I cranked the boost past that one day and it flowed 35 lbs. I was getting knock though so I turned it back down. Cheesy

I'm going with a big turbo soon, but I'm going to hold onto the s16g in case I want to switch back because of too much lag. I just want some more power because the s16g isn't giving me enough to beat my buddy's Harley. Cheesy

I also have a small 16G and I basically feel the same way about it as stated above.  It has treated me well for what I wanted my inital goal to be.  Once I finish doing all of my supporting mods i'm probably going to look into something bigger though.

the small 16g is a very eficient street turbo.  no it doesn't push as much air as the big16g but it does it more efficiently, eg, it makes less hot air.

The Evo is the best of the lot, like its been said.

And if you can't beat your buddy's Hog, he's either got a bad ass S&S stroker or something or your car is not tuned right.

I totally schooled one a few years back with just 3", maf work and about 12psi. Probably running low to mid 14s at the time.
