So it looks like my ecu is done. According to Darryl. My question is will a 1g ecu out of an AWD TSi Talon work for my 96 AWD TSi Talon....
I have a guy who is interested in the car. So I am wanting to fix this problem before I lose his interest.

As for your question; No. 1G ecu's have 3 plugs, and 2G's have 4.

1g cars use ALDL connectors and are OBD1.  2g cars are OBD2 and have many more monitors, different codes and use completely different software that will be read by a completely different scan tool/code reader.  You would have an easier time trying to wire in a 98 Civic ECU than trying to put a 1g one in and make it work and pass Emissions and have no engine lights.

If you took the complete engine wiring harness out of a 1g and replaced yours with it, the car would run, but it would be no fun at all if you needed to do aircare, scan it, or other things.
