The most exspensive and time consuming part of building the race car is the roll cage.  Good luck with that part!!

I can build a roll cage ( and I'm certified to weld it too.... )

I also disagree. You're comparing a basically track ready car (Porsche) to a DSM.

The unfortunate part is that's what you will be grouped with.  Is it possible to pull off?  Sure.  It's not going to be easy to be even competitive.  You will be constrained to the beginner sessions anyway and have limited chance to pass for the first year, until you get rid of the "X".

Who picked up Farzan's old car?  That would make a great starting point.  Honestly, hill climbs are a LOT easier to get in to.  In fact you can even drive them without a license (depends on who you know) or only a novice license works.  All you need is a Solo 1 prep to the car.  (Throw a 6 point cage in and call it a day.)

I'm just attempting to add a dose of reality here.  Perhaps I am just bitter from scrapping the tube frame car I was working on. Smiley

Being in the same group as Porsches is what I want. We will see how well they can cope with my 600 whp "X".

a 600 whp lightweight talon would be very hard to control at wot around the corners.  i bet 400-450 whp would be more realistic.  It would probably be pretty close to the porches at that power level also.

I've been autoXing my 1G AWD for the last year and a bit.  I started out stock, i've now added A LOT to it, yeah my car is faster and handles better, but if you can't drive your 600whp car smoothly it doesn't matter how much power you have or how well your car handles.  I know i surely have a lot to learn about driving my car properly.
I do realize that full on track racing is different than autox, but they do have their similarities.  I fully support you guys doing this and am actually doing a driver training course myself here in Victoria March. 18th,19th,20th through Victoria Motor Sports Club.
Personally the best car i've seen for autox has been Mazda Miatas, they are consistantly fast, and handle amazing, not too sure how they'd cross over to road racing, but i'm sure they be competitve in their class.

Miatas are far and away the easiest way to go racing.  Buy the car, roll bar, oil change, brake pads and fluid, go racing.

+1  Remi and Dan you definately know your cars.  A lot of people underestimate a Miata cause they think its girly.  It corners REALLY well and very light.  May not be the perfect drag car, but its a good track car with the right driver.

Lots of fun.

 Hahaha

I was going to say there is an alternative to the simple nimbleness of the Miata, but it comes from stuttgart.

 Anyway back on topic:

Driver training is March 20-21. I can't go with my car (for obvious reasons) but that doesn't stop any of you John, Brett, etc... (Matt, why not road race that beetle?) and I plan on going to watch.

I might even sign up as a volunteer.

I am very interested - but bugger it - no trucks?  Damn.  My talon will definitely not be together for March 20/21.

Hahaha
