So, drove through a road block tonight and i got away without a front plate ticket because i haven't had time to paint my bumper yet so its just primed. The officer said the cost of the fine is now $196. So i dont like the factory mount. I was thinking of folding the bottom all the way in and fold the top like an "L" then screw into the opening on the bumper. Whats your thoughts?? maybe some pictures of the way you got yours mounted

I was written up for that last week. The officer is holding the ticket and will not process it if I'm 'incident free' for the next 12 months. I kinda wish he'd just have given it to me so I could hurry up and take it to court.
I had the top and bottom of the place folded back on itself, and mounted on the bumper.
I haven't yet read the MVA concerning the matter, but I gather that it's got to be displayed in full (not folded), and straight up and down, on the front of the car (and not tucked away inside the grill). Basically, gotta give the cops a nice spot to aim their laser guns.
Mine is now unfolded, double-sided-taped to the bumper covering the left foglight, with a zip tie through it should the tape fail. Because I'm not putting the original mount back on, period.

According to ICBC you have to have the plate in it's original condition, using the factory mounts, in it's intended position. You cannot use any other method of attaching it other than the correct bolts (no tape or zap straps). Anything other than that and you can get a ticket

Mine is mounted at the bottom left corner of my bumper using a bracket.
Never been hassled and gone through tons of roadblocks.

Ya cops only care if it's there. I've had it folded and tucked away. There's only so much you can do. I had my zap strapped to the power steering pump before but now with the fmic no way

you can get away with almost anything though. as long as it's there then you'll prolly have no issues. but legally they can bust you if they are looking for something to bust you with. i used to have one that was folded a bitso it was most esthetically pleasing but i hated always having the thought in the back of my head that at any time i could be ticketed for it.

attach it to your right side sun visor. i did that in my camaro. when u see a road block fold your visor down and plate becomes visible. worked very well. sun visor is almost same size as licence plate.

The law is front bumper not inside the car. Cops in chilliwack are dicks. They actually care about mildly tinted windows

The first thing I did after pulling the permit papers off my Talon when I bought it was remove the front plate bracket. Drove it for 6 years without a front plate and some of the guys on here know how agressive my car looked by the time I was done kidding it so I wasn't blending in and I only ever got hassel for that alone once and it was a vpd training session. Other than that no prob I'd just loose it all together and if you get pulled over start botching about how much the dealer wants for a new bracket and how your looking for one online. I dunno no problems yet with my Boxster either.

I guess it depends on where you are.
The cops around Victoria are complete assholes with nothing better to do than hassle people over inconsequential things rather than... say... keeping an eye out on the growing masses of homeless breaking into cars for drug money.
Fun fact: A ticket for having an 'obscured' license plate (folded, angled, inside car, etc) is more expensive than a ticket for no license plate. $109 vs $196.
