I was driving it the other night, ran perfect.  the next morning I go to drive it, pulls good in first, go into second get into boost the check engine light comes on.  As soon as the light comes on it feels like the timing is being retarded, but as soon as it happens it builds boost through the roof like my WG isn't opening. But the car doesnt move any faster,  come out of boost, drive normal, light goes off, build a couple of pounds and it does the same thing again.

The CEL will also randomly come on when cruising.

First gear will pull fine everytime.

Will get a BLT done, and try and figure out the Test light code reading.

well, first things first, what is the CEL for?

Pull that damn code!!

And if the timing is being huge retarded, it WILL spool like mad.  But with no timing it wil be slow as hell still.

Find out why, pull that code.

doesnt sound like a typical boost leak...

check the turbo/vac lines OR more likely its the new ecu you picked up ?

I'm thinking it could be some phantom knock and its retarding the timing.

If only i could figure out how to pull these codes  Undecided

never had this problem with my evo.... yet anyways.

Yeah plug it into a code reader (OBDI) and see whats going on.

You might be able to pull the codes like a DSM by grounding out the wire in the OBDI port and counting the flashes... I have never tried it tho so that might not work on a evo.

Good luck on getting it figured out

Sounds to me like someone has put an aftermarket chip in the ecu and they have the check engine light set to a knock light. I have my car set to do that with ecmlink v3 just for extra warning.

Its not an aftermarket chip.  But, it could be knocking, Its not the maf either, I switched it out with my 2g one and it does the same.

Also changed the fuel filter.  I'm going to go get the code pulled tomorrow since i can't seem to figure it out with a test light.
