im currently in the process of fighting my ticket as well. i have mine mounted inside my car on the dash with 2 suction cups holding the plate against the glass. the cop who gave me the ticket cited 3.02 MV regualtions. as you can see the regulations are VERY vague. especially since i already passed an inspection with the plate the way it is when i imported the car. i think the way the wording is currently sides with the drivers not the police. but who know what the judge will say. i will keep everyone posted. this is the MV regulations for everyone to read.
Number plates in horizontal position
3.02 A number plate shall at all times be securely fastened in a horizontal position to the vehicle for which it is issued.
Plates to be unobstructed
3.03 A number plate must be kept entirely unobstructed and free from dirt or foreign material, so that the numbers and letters on it may be plainly seen and read at all times and so that the numbers and letters may be accurately photographed using a speed monitoring device or traffic light safety device prescribed under section 83.1 of the Act.

What's vague about that?
Must be horizontal (ie, at 90 degrees to the road. Not at the angle of your windshield).
Must be unobstructed (by things such as your windshield).
It doesn't exactly leave many options for mounting. It sucks, I have a court date for the same issue coming up, but it's the way it is.

I got pulled over in my jeep last night and got a warning for no front plate. He gave me 2 weeks to get one on and too go to the police station and show them it is in fact on.

horizontal refers to the position of the plate which could mean anywhere. not obstructed has nothing to do with your window, a window is clear and offers no obstruction. so yes it is vague. good luck for your case, i hope both ours go well.
