You guys dont listen. Everything was put back together properly. What happened was the cv shaft has a huge bend in it and is mangled. I replaced the shaft and everything that looked like it needed replacing all is good except rubber and fender.

yeah but for your fender to get hit like that.. a balljoint of arm would have HAD to have separarated,.  A "bent" axle will not cause the wheel to go all wonky like that and contact the fender and make the car sit on the ground!

Totally, were somewhat confused how the wheel got like that after breaking an axle.
I broke my axle on my DSM, same side too.

I just replaced the axle only, didnt have ANY other damage.

Ive broken FWD axles before too, NEVER see it do that.

The axle broke and also broke all the weak steering and suspension all on that side. It ripped the threads off the bottom ball joint, it snapped and bent my tie rod and more

im thinking its the other way around here.

The threads pull out on the ball joint causing the lower arm to separate from the knuckle...  this in turn caused the axle to pull out of the inner cup allowing it to wack shit as it flew around... at the same time the car slammed to the ground, bending the fender and snapping the tie rod all in one fluid motion.

Kyle stepped out of the car, looked at the damage and said WTF, WHY DO I OWN A DSM??!!!

it had to be in the sequence Brett is talking about and the others are alluding to.

If the axle busted(just up and busted for whatever reason including alien intervention) it would flail around and possibly damage the parts it could come into contact with.

If it bent, again due to whatever offroading or otherworldly forces, it would just keep rotating and probably stay in the joint, just moving in and out on both ends.

If it happened at once, catastrophically in one big go, you may see something like this, but if it happened slowly, you would feel the axle being out of balance.  It doesn't take much to make the driver feel an out of balance rotating item such as a driveshaft, axle, wheel, tire etc.

If you hit a curb hard, or were offroading and hit something like a rock that was poking up right on the axle, then just drove around till it let go, sure, maybe.

But much more likely is the scenario Brett and the others are talking about.

+1 on bretts explanation.

similar situation but not a dsm, my buddy had a 92 mazda mx3 it was a beater , both cv axles were toast clicking really loud when turning corners left or right. One day he phones me and says the car wont move..."it made a loud noise when turning a corner then i lost all power to the wheels" is what he said. He got it towed it to my house and i crawl under it and find the drive front cv axle snapped and the inner joint. the car still rolled on all 4 wheels and turned when we pushed it. the suspension, and steering components were fine.

mind you this mx3 had 380k on it hahaha

Ball Joint probably went first dude.
Extending the axle out of the cup while turning, binding and snapping it.

But yea, we thought you said you just replace the axle and all was dandy.

We KNEW other stuff had broke, we just needed to know what, lol/

Having had this exact same thing happen to me just about a year ago now, I'm going to have to agree with the ball joint having gone first.
