I personally wouldn't frack around with rebuilding brake calipers unless its a last resort, and on something that really IS out of production like a '62 Lotus Cortina or something.

Don't buy the kit, just the calipers, those will be in stock somewhere as its all 93-99 AWD cars and Stealth/3kGT non turbo cars, plus 91-92 VR4 Galants.

Or that kit that Ziggy sells, or the one Lowell pointed out.

Well it just chaps my ass to have to drop another $150-$200 when all I need is $5 in rubber caliper seals.

Go ahead and find the rebuilt calipers for me.  So far, Lordco, Napa, Mopac have told me nope on rebuilt dual-piston calipers - they can't find any in their system for 1994/1995 eagle talon tsi awd.  The ones they do find in their systems are all single piston.

ask for 95-99, or ask for Stealth non turbo.

Try finding new or rebuilt calipers for a 1989 Dodge Colt turbo with the 4g61t.  You wont, in canada anyways.  I needed one for my buddies black colt and have not yet had any luck... tried rich at lordco... no luck.. napa... no luck... wakefields.. no luck.   THey have listings for the SOHC 89 turbo colts... which bolt up but will not fit over the DOHC colts thicker rotors/pads.  and 1G  DSM calipers are a bit smaller and will not bolt up as well.  I ended up doing a temporary fix by using the SOHC turbo 89 colt calipers i grabbed from pickapart and using one new pad and putting in a older worn down pad to allow the caliper to fit over the rotor/pads properly.  So far it has worked flawlessly.... still want to get a permenent solution in order tho.

Im just going to screw it and swap the stupid captive rotor setup to a expo/summit/colt wagon knuckle and slot the top strut bolt to deal with the camber issues it brings up.  Much easier then trying to find the super rare calipers. plus going to this setup you use regular style removable rotors (GVR4 rotors and easier to find 2 piston DSM/evo/GVR4 calipers)

Also axles for a 89 colt turbo 4g61t are also almost impossible to find as well. Luckily The SOHC turbo 89 colt that pick a part used the same axles that i needed..  but one of them still clicked a tiny bit on full lock turns...    DAMNNITT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is cool owning a limited production car that only 1500 units were ever imported to North America tho... Just hard as shit to find parts for.

Pretty much my only option right now for getting front caliper/axle parts for my colt GT is from the states,.... which lordco cannot guarentee that they are the right ones... and will charge me shipping costs that are non returnable... Everyone recommended getting them rebuilt at a local rebuilder shop... Might be my only option to get some good calipers and axles.

I feel your pain!!

I just bought a set of rear rebuilt calipers for my Talon......

$175 a pop   Lips sealed  Angry  Shocked

I have been on the look out for a year and this as low as it gets. I cant rebuild my one seized one either. The slide pin has welded itself to the casting.  Angry

So the inner pad will press against the rotor, but the outer pad wont pull in.

Oh well. New brakes and getting Sheela to powder coat all my calipers!!!!    Grin

This is what I am after.  I ordered the same rotors and want powder coated red  Wink

Chad - be very very careful - you will need a rebuild kit for those calipers since Sheela will have to strip them down to powdercoat, and you may not be able to find one.

then if its a hassle to find rebuild kits.. and the calipers are in good shape.. then dont powercoat them... simple it as that.

Chad, you can put the bracket in a vice and use lots of penetrating lube and lots of hammering, pliers to turn the pin and patience.  you will eventually get it.  Then you have to clean it all up real nice and lube it well.

Just keep at it.

Ha Ha.....

don't worry guys.....      If you read my earlier post, I just bought 2 rear rebuilt calipers for $175 a piece.  Undecided

It's the new rears and the current front calipers getting ceramic coated red.

Chad:

I believe that they will sandblast and bake the calipers as a part of the coating process - which means all the seals will either be toasted or removed beforehand - which means you're probably gonna need a rebuild kit for all of your brakes unless you are able to remove them from the calipers without damaging them which is not a given.

Ya I figured that too Jason, so I bought 2 caliper kits for the front calipers. I left the rears alone as they are coming in freshly rebuilt, so it should not be hard to get the new seals off.

Yeah, that's the big pain with something unique like that.  Sucks to have a cool rare car that you can't drive for want of some stupid part or bracket or something you can't find anywhere.

Have you guys tried looking in the states at all?  It's not a lot of hassle to bring stuff into someplace like Ship Happens.  Rock Auto looked like they have lots of listings for DSM brake stuff.  Of course, you have to wait for shipping.

Chad: where did you get the rebuild kits - because you probably got the same thing that I need.

I bought all my brakes from R1 Concepts, including the rebuilt calipers.

I just got the brakes. They weren't so bad for shipping. To bring a 37lb parcel from Flordia across the border cost me the following:

Shipping:             $55
Brokerage etc:      $75

So $130 in total. My total bill with shipping was basically $930.

I got:

- 4 premium slotted/cross drilled rotors
- Full ceramic pads front + rear
- 2 rear rebuilt calipers + no core
- 2 front brake repair kits
- ABS brake master cylinder

If I compare those prices to here at Lordco for instance:

- $160 for full ceramic pads
- $225 per rear caliper + core
- $135 for the brake master cylinder
- $450 for full rotors like powerslot
- no front caliper boot kits

which all comes to:  $1195

So definitely saved $$$ and I think these are better rotors than powerslot. Powerslot are overpriced for what they are.

Sometimes it's no biggy going to the States.
