I own a 90 talon awd tsi 5spd and ive done loads of work on my clutch/trans. and once I was finished She drove great, but after a while i would start her and she would make a grose noise *starter hitting the flywheel* i looked and either my tran. bolts are backing out or i have something blocking my transmission from being flush with the block..   what is the most common thing to block the tran.?  also the left upper ear cracked. I have another tran. but i think its from a 92 would that work?

this is what happened to my trans. the trans in pulling away from the block making your starter miss the flywheel. the crack will get worse and will just eventually miss the the wheel completly.

You could try to weld the crack but aluminum is very hard to weld and it is cast, so it will probly just crack again. Better off using the other transmission you have. but the spline of your transfercase will be different so use the one that came with the 93' if you have it

happened to me too.  dont try to weld the bell housing or anything. it need to be replaced. torque and cracks dont get along well. try to score a bell housing.
