So recently I noticed that my rad fan has not been turning on at all when warmed up. First thing I checked was the relay, swapped it with the fog light relay and the fogs still worked. Today I replaced the thermostat with a 195 degree one let it warm up and nothing. So could it be the coolant temp sensor then? The reading on the dash has never worked on the car since I've owned it but the fans still came on before. Any suggestions would be appreciated Smiley.

the switch(sensor) for the rad fan is mounted in the bottom of the radiator.  It is a two wire sensor.  There is also the relay of course and applicible power and grounds.

you also have to make sure the fan isn't dead.  you can either jump the pins on the relay socket or just connect 12V to the fan motor to make sure that the fan is working.

Good luck.

the sensor for the gauge on the dash is the 1 wire sensor mounted on the thermostat housing.  the two wire sensor beside it is the sensor for ECU's fuel calculations

Yeah just start with trying to power it up with power directly from the battery, if it spins at least you've eliminated that problem, if not then there ya go

Thanks for the info!  Smiley
Popped the hood when I came home from work today, the passenger side works but the drivers side doesn't lol. The fan itself has a orange/brown hue, is my turbo cooking the fan, anyone ever hear of that?

I'm pretty sure the drivers side will only come on if you are running your a/c. I could be wrong don't quote me on it but if I remember correctly that should be why.

stock is 195.

going cooler is not going to gain you anything, not like in the carb domestic days.

Matt, your drivers side one won't come on without the A/C.

So, did the fan come on because the engine was hot or did you jumper it or otherwize turn it on manually?

Oh haha.. I misread Greg's post, thought he said passenger side lol. The fan came on cause it was hot I suppose lol, so it sounds like the thermostat did the trick Smiley.

i think you can turn on the drivers side fan (the 2nd fan) if you press the A/C button all the way in...  it *should* activate the air conditioning fan.

yep, +1 for Bretts again.

But his A/C doesn't work, I think there is no refrigerant in there, so no pressure, therefore no switch activation.

He would have to test the fan by running power and ground to the fan itself and check it out.

You could of course run your own switch to inside if you like but if the other fan is working, then thats how its designed.  Without the extra load of the A/C, its ok.  Cars with no A/C have only  one fan and do just fine  Smiley

Now, that all said, unless the engine was never heating up, the thermostat won't have control of the fan.  You need to get a cluster for that car or at least find out if its the sender or wiring.  Its a really good idea to know what temp the engine is.

I defineatly agree, would like to know my engine temp for once lol. Haven't had any problems with overheating so far but still first on my list before any mods go in  Wink.

i have seen several 1G's with the A/C stuff removed... (but still A/C fan connected) and the AC button on the dash would still turn the a/c fan on for some reason.

Edit: Fan does come on when I push in the button upon further inspection Smiley.
