So today on my way to work the car started making this intermitted machine gun sound and I'm getting very little power. Under the hood I don't here any irregular sounds just seems to be coming from out the exhaust, sowould this be a misfire issue then? Also the car being my daily driver.. is it save to drive the car like this?
Info would be much appreciated Smiley

plugs, wires or ignition module would be my first guess, but it could be the ecu, the cas or the coil.

It will need to be looked at tho.  If you continue to drive it with the misfire, you will take out your new cat in a hurry!  Plus you will dilute your oil with gas and over time take out your engines bearings.

If you can isolate it to one or 2 cylinders, you can much more easily determine the cause.  IE, if its number 3 only, it will have to be something just for that cylinder.  But if its randomly moving around to each different cylinder with no rhyme or reason, then its probably something more global.

Thanks John, I was thinking the same thing for the cat Tongue. So i believe I have figured out the problem, so it looks like my wires have strayed into the path of the timing belt, so the belt has cut right through the wires. I suppose i should put that upper timing cover back on lol.

easy fix, hope it didn't damage the tbelt.

you mean the main plug wires?  or wiring to the coil pack or transistor pack?

the only place i know that the timing belt can interfere with the plug wires without the upper cover on is at the back cam gear near where the wires go down through the passageway to the coilpack..

there should be a rubber block thing that holes all the wires together at the spot where they go through the slot..

based on experience with a different car with the same problem, it turned out to be the coil pack and plugs caused it to misfire

yes, but if you read this post, he found where the plug wires were rubbing on the cam gear and well...
