So my dsm breaking down again has left me fed up with these cars for the moment looking for something good on gas, reliable and cheap. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe things to look for in particular cars? Info would be much appreciated . Edit: I suppose I should mention I'm looking to spend around 2 grand

Honda civic, toyota tercel, corrolla, camry, nissian sentra, nissan 200SX (2dr sentra), Dodge Colt, Eagle summit, Mitsubsihi mirage. (1.5L)
geo metro (suzuki), geo storm(isuzu), asuna sunfire, isuzu impulse
all those cars are japanese built econoboxes... great mileage and reliablility...
Personally i would also recommend the VW jetta and golf... but dont get a VR6 (not in your price ranger anyways) the 1.8L or 2.0L jetta/golf are good little reliable cars and decent on gas...

Mazda's and Subaru's are good too, although not quite as fuel effiecient as Brett's list. And in the lower mainland, awd in winter is rarely needed.

I'm kinda leaning towards a subaru, colt, summit or vee-dub... not the biggest fan of civics just cause everyone has them and thinks they're hot sh*t lol. Here is a impreze outback sport I found on craigslist, anyone know anything about these cars? I would love to have it for camping and the awd would be great for snowboarding . http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/cto/2463580315.html

FWIW
The Subies are reliable if they have had the head-gasket issue addressed, but they are not really that good on gas - even the Impreza - the AWD system really does eat into mileage. Check fueleconomy.gov for some good comparative info - you can switch btw l/100km or mpg for comparisons

If you're a snowboarder, then the awd will put a smile on your face when the roads are full of accumulated slush/snow. That impreza outback sport sounds like a fair deal. If he's got receipts to prove maintenance history, then should be safe buy. You could always pay for a pre purchase mechanics inspection for more piece of mind. Carproof report is good too for liens/ownership history/major accident claims.

The mileage doesnt bother me as much i wouldnt mind paying the extra bit for a nice camping/snowboarding all year round type of vehicle. Head gasket issue? Do they come from the factory not torqued down enought like the toyota 7m motors or something? Thanks for the info ken!

Yeah subies aren't *bad* but they're not great. They tend to have lots of head sealing issues and oil leaks. They also don't have very nice interiors.
I've owned a lot of daily drivers in the last 5 years. Get over the "don't want a civic because everyone drives one" thing; its childish and it rules out a lot of great cars that handle/feel well beyond their price range and won't disappoint you. There is nothing wrong with liking honda and dsm or etc...
My personal favourite cheap car of all the ones I've owned is a Mk2 VW jetta. Parts are stupidly cheap, they're very simple and easy to work on and they're very well built.

no fuel, rpm, or boost log. "It can't be done" Tune by luck! Lol I don't get upset but when someone talks like they know everything and when you put a statement like this turbo spools at this rpm your kidding yourself on a car making 600-1100whp. It can't be done.
