2G: Custom gauge pod

I Already have a 3 gauge pillar and now that I'm doing more mods to the car I needed a A/F gauge. Everywhere I was thinking on putting the gauge it didn't look sleek or stylish and just looked plain ricey so i was talking to my brother and he found a spot and made the pod himself what do you guys think about it?

Definately good use of space. What did he make it out of? If he kept the mold I bet some club members would love to copy it.

I just used the stock piece and a spray paint can cap as a mold. I taped the paint cap to the stock piece and wrapped it in fleece, then coated it in fiberglass resin. After it was dry, I trimmed the edges and the stock piece and paint cap popped out and I was just left with the piece shown in the pictures. The fun part was sanding, layering it with body filler, more sanding, more body filler, even more sanding, spraying it with filler primer, and then a final sand before paint. I was initially thinking about selling them, but with the time that it took me to build and the pain in the @$$ install/running the wiring into the door, it just wouldn't be worth it for others.

Been there, done that.  



It is a good spot and it keeps the focal distance about the same as the lowest a-pillar gauge.  I made mine with the stock piece, a piece of ABS pipe.  2" fits a gauge snugly with just a little sanding inside, then fiberglass to finish it.  That's the same spot I'm going to put my trans temp in my truck when I get it.  

When I first posted mine there was interest too but I agree it's just not worth it.  To cover materials and any kind of a reasonable wage you're probably looking at $80-$100 per which is just too much.  To sell it for what's reasonable ($30?) you'd be making maybe $5/hour.  If you could get it set up on plastic moulding machine it'd be sweet, but there's a big investment in the mould to recover depending on the type and obviously access to the machinery is required.
