Today I parked the car for about an hour, then started it. The idle started to fluctuate and the car wanted to die after I put in in drive. Radio also cut out and the check engine light came on, I believe. After driving about 50 feet with this issue, it started running normally.

Parked the car at a restaurant, and started it again after dinner. Ran fine at first, then after I put it in reverse it did the same thing. Radio cut out, engine died this time, and it kept rolling. Radio came back on. Started the car again and it seemed fine.

Later as I was pulling out onto a street, it got weird again. Dashboard lighting and radio cut out. I kept my foot on the pedal, but it seemed like the engine was cutting out too. Killed it, started it again and made it home.

What might be the root of the problem here?

Thanks!

Edit: Also heard a loud clicking noise when it started acting funny.

Haven't taken a look under the hood yet, but I'm hoping it's something small like a loose battery terminal.

I think I used to have the same issue and it turned out to be my alternator is taking a shit. Check if your alternator is charging.

check the battery cables first, then find out if the alternator is charging.
