Either a bad starter, wrong starter (auto and 5-speed are diff), or the ring gear on the flywheel is fucked.

Probably have to get under there and take off the starter, and look for damage

the starter bendix gear is soft and should save your flywheel teeth.
x2 wrong starter
bad starter can be tested outside the vehicle by starting it with the drive gear (bendix) pressed against a 2by4 piece of wood.
You should be able to see if it working right then.

Was it a used starter??  Sounds like its dragging or the bearings are bad.....  To fix that u have to replace the starter usually...

Might be worth it to buy a rebuilt starter with a warranty..  Be sure that you get the right starter, as other ones may have a difference in extension and that would lead to  constant grinding.  OR this could be a symptom of the two auto wrecker starters youve tried. They could be Fakked.
when you take the starter off, you can check the condition of your flywheel via mirror and flashlight. Things are made easier when you have someone crank the motor for you slowly using the crankbolt. You can check the teeth as they go by.  use your fingers and feel the flywheel too. Should be nice squared teeth all around.

I hate starter issues. Best of luck.

either get the starter rebuilt by a reputable place, or get a new one.

But make sure its the correct one for the car like said above
