front mount question

where i am living we get lots of snow example last night we got over a foot and it also gets very cold -10 to -30 during the winter should i cover my front mount with cardboard or a mat i see in on semi trucks and turbo diesel trucks up here i am just curious if i need to do it also?

i think the semi trucks do that to keep their cooling system/engine at ideal running temps. with extremely cold conditions, it would be easy for the trucks to never warm up to normal operating temps so they block the cool air from the rad.
a friends pathfinder is the same way. a few winters ago he was in some -30C and with the heater on, the truck couldnt get up to operating temp and would eventually blow cold air.
in that cold of weather, you could easily make a cover to protect your fmic from damages (ie: ice chunks,ect)

with my old summit 1.5L going up the coq it wouldnt get much heat unless you really were working the engine hard....I cut out a piece of cardboard that covered 2/3rds of the radiator and then it was fine... In town it was never a problem.. only going on the highway when it was like -20.
I have never had this problem with a turbo DSM/colt tho...

DSM motor's get pretty damn hot. I dont think youll have any issues other than cosmetic damages to the FMIC.
If you're driving in heavy snow - you really shouldnt be driving that car anyways. You'll do what I did. Eventually the snow will pack so high, youll be sitting with all 4 tires in the air, digging your self back to the ground!!
