Will a 2G exhaust manifold fit on a 1G? If so is thier a performance gain? Or am I better off porting my 1g manifold?

Playing with stock exhaust manifolds will prove to be a waste of time. Heres RTM racings page of exhaust manifold.

Most untrue quote of the week!  Wink

hahah  a stock 2G manifold can easily flow over 400 WHP.  Hell... i have even heard of people putting down over 400 WHP on the stock 1G manifold...

get a 2g stock manifold..     then wish it looked nicer every time you lift the hood.  lol. jk (but it seems to be the only parts that looks out of place in

most engine bays)

I dont doubt you can make 400whp with a stock manifold.   I know its been done. He isnt exactly maxing out his current manifold..

If I was going to upgrade, I wouldnt waste my time putting a stock looking (only slighty larger) manifold back on.

Go FP or the HAFE manifold if ya have the moneyzz!!    get some real flow.

Tubulars are nice but I have heard of several of them having issues with cracking and leaking depending on what they are made of and the overall design. FP Cast manifolds do really well and for only a couple hundred bucks they're well worth it.

what Greg said.  They do make a bit more power, and they look great, but they crack and make your engine bay really hot.

A ported 2g manifold is great for most cars, and if you need more, then go ahead.  That said, I went from a well ported, coated 2g manifold to an FP cast one and it made more power and torque.  I wasn't expecting anything really but it was easily noticable.

The main disadvantage of the 1g manifold is that it cracks really easily. Most of them are junk.

You will have to minorly grind off a small part of the outside of the 2g manifold to fit the 1g car, but its easy and quick.

Anyone ever heard exaust manifold cracks sounding like a bearing whine? I have a new water pump and timing components all oem, but I hear this bearing whine around 3000 rpm and can't pin point it. I had a crack in my manifold that I welded up and also surface ground the face for the head. Maybe the weld isn't holding up?

most likely alternator bearing. Exhaust leaks typically tick due to firing order   etc..     internet diagnosis isnt always easy.

The Stethescope hears this sound all over the front case   Cry . Alternator was rebuilt, block has new bearings, balance shaft removed, and the oil pump now has straight cut gears so they didn't wear the case out. Its driving me nuts! And A/C belt is off. Thanks for confirming the crack in the manifold idea though. Have ordered another timing kit but cant confirm sound from idler bearing or tensioner bearing. FML My G/F hates my car cuz it sees more of me then she does.

Maybe you should start a new thread, Matt.  Btw, straight cut gears in your oil pump will whine for sure.  However it should be constant with changing pitch following rpm...
