Yup, drove the EVO VIII the other day, good little jaunt from Coquitlam to Langley. And i'd have to say overall, i'd get one. Really impressed with the room inside the car, it being 4door and all, also liked a few different things.

Interior:
- Very roomy, enough room for 4 regular sized guys (6'2) to sit and be comfortable, unlike a talon
- Stereo was decent, didnt turn it up much, but it sounded very clear and came with CD player as well. Bonus.
- Recaro seats are comfortable, good and hug very nicely. Recaro is good mmkay?    (note i'm 6'2)

Exterior:
- car looks mean, rim/tire package compliments the suspension very nicely
- FMIC in the front is obscure enough to blend in, but noticable enough to make an impression

Engine/Performance: (Note: Car had Greddy Type S BOV as well as 3" turbo-back)
- car had plenty of pick-up in any gear
- shifting was very stiff, but once you got used to it, the car shifted firmly, which is really nice, especially when downshifting
- the cooling system is very very well thought out, the grill in the hood actually had hot air coming out of it at a very good rate

Handling:
- wow.... all i have to say is wow
- car handled like a mini go-kart and hugged all corners
- suspension is incredibly responsive, as is steering, all without sacrificing the rideability of the car

I'm sure i'm missing some components (didnt touch on the brakes becauser they were shot) but overall... damn it was nice to drive.

Overall... i think them mitsubitchy people knew what they were doing with this one.

Overall it gets a

Also, I have read in SCC there is a version of the VIII comming out, called the RS, which is a bit cheaper and about 300 pounds lighter. It comes without ABS, stereo, airconditioning, but also has a couple of LSDs.

I've heard rumours about that as well, but not recently.

Why were the brakes shot?

In this months Super Street magazine theirs a nice article on the Lancer RS, it is in fact on a diet that deleted 150lbs of non-essential mass from the vehicle. Some of the parts taken out are the rear spoiler, rear wiper and, A/C, audio system, power locks and doors and HID headlights. Many other non-essential items. One item that stands apart from the EVOIII is a front torque biasing differential instead of the open-type differential. Says it provides smoother and more effective traction than the EVOIII when it emerges from corners. Anywho check out Super Street, I know now that I'd rather get a Lancer RS when it arrives in Canada.

Is the Lancer RS powered by 4g63?  Cause there already is a Lancer RS on the road, isnt turbo'd though.

RS featured in SCC was an EVO 8 with alot of weight stuff taken off and the RS Urban Jungle had a stereo and power windows.  It only added 35 lbs or so.

Both Evo 8's with turbo 4g63's, Brembos, and all the rest.  Oh, no hugeass wings Cheesy

Trav, I think the Lancer RS and Evo RS are two very different things.  They've had an EVO RS for a long time now in Japan and the other EVO markets.
