2 things stand out in my mind.  The first and probably the worst.  Draining of coolant.  I don't wanna run water in my car, its a daily driver, and not a trailer race car.  And draining it every week is silly.  What do you all do?

Secondly, if you break into the 12's you gotta get a helmet?  Ok, one for next year then Smiley

You need one if you run 13.99 or faster

You can't use any old helmet, either.   Make sure it is a fairly new helmet.
I almost couldn't race one time because the helmet I borrowed was Snell 85, and they wanted a much more up to date rating.....

Snell 95 i belive is the new rating they require

and what i usually do for the antifreeze is just fill up my overflow with water, and if they ask if i'm running collant, i tell em i'm running Water Wetter... which is a supplement most of you know about.

i usually just drove from richmond... to mission.. tey aint goona open my rad cap..... so they'll spot check the overflow... and if you say water wetter they usually assume you know your stuff...

If you know your stuff, running coolant at the track could be a huge pain in the ass if you pop a hose. Know your stuff and drain it. Simple. Cheesy , Water wetter has anti-corrosive agents in it anyway.

Yes, water and ww is the best way to go the whole season, the begining of the season do 1 full flush, i ran ww in my 323 and noticed a significant temp drop, run pure water and ww, just do 2 flushes a year, begining and end of season.

and dont run antifreeze in your car at the track, it ruins a whole night if you blow a hose, and alot of people will be EXTREMELY PISSED OFF AT YAH!!

How much is ww and where can you get it?  Never done a system flush on my own - always easier to pay some monkey $15 to do it for me while the oil's bein changed or somethin. Livin in an apartment with no permission to do oil changes in the parking lot or on the street kinda limits me to doin most work on my own.

is there a simpler way to get all the antifreeze out other than drain it, fill with water, drive around, drain again, refill, repeat several times?

I run it all year long, it will not stop your rad from freezing but that is not a real concern in the lower mainland. Read here for more info

So Fraser, what did you do fri-sunday this last week??  It was well below freezing for many hours out here at least?

Other than that aspect, it seems great!  How expensive is it?

A flush kit.  Hook up the garden hose and idle for 5 min.

John, I did not drive it. You guys need to decide if you want to be "hardcore" or just part time racers. To be hardcore its WAAAAY easier as you do not have to change things back and forth to suit. But I guess some people have to drive these things to work everyday, poor bastards. Tongue

Poor bastards?  We get to use our cars Tongue

Still, even if you did not drive it over the cold snap, unless you have a heated garage, it still was exposed to the cold.  How did you protect it?  Block heater or something like that?
