"Tires or bust"
« on: April 20, 2004, 11:36:19 pm »
I need to find tires....I'm going crazy

I had a hookup that was going to get me some for $65 each but he hasn't returned calls for past two weeks so I'm asuming that deal is bust.

I need to find some for less than $120 must be 215/45R17 and All-season beyond that I'm caring less and less.

If ANYONE knows anything that can help me please let me know.

Thanks

:agreed:
I have the same tires and they are awesome, although I am not sure about the all seasoness of them.
They seem to be rated for pretty good wet weather.

I've just read some reviews that have really put me off Avid h4's because of their shitty wet traction. Wet traction is very close in importance to me to dry traction. How do those Ziex's deal with wet?

BTW where did you get them and how much $$$ ?

I have never really had a problem with my Falkens in the wet, even at highway speeds in a downpour no signs of hydroplaning.  I am sure if you stomped on it from a stop in the rain they'd spin fairly easily, like any other tire really.  In the dry i've found no other tire that can quite handle like this one.
I got mine at Kal Tire here in Courtenay, $143 each that was for 205/45/16's probably a few bucks more for the 17's i'd figure.

So on the recomendation of Mike and Dan and many many others who say they kck ass in wet, dry and snow, I'm getting the Falken Ziex 512's tomorrow in Vic.  The 215/45R17's run $154.06 each from Kal Tire. I was hoping to pay less but that's not bad at all. Also since they come with liftime free re-balancing I'll surely get my money's worth out of them.

I can't wait to finally see nice wheels on my car 8)

On another note, my damn springs and calipers still haven't arrived so it looks like I won't have time to get them on before Sunday :? oh well.

Just FYI Jeremy, DO NOT GET AVID H4'S

Bad bad idea, speaking from personal experience. Never would get another set again.

Yeah thanks Ryan. I almost did get some but then I found out they suck ass in wet and are like slicks in snow.
I hear the newer H4S are supposed to be better but it's too early to tell.

I ended up getting some Falken Ziex 512's  They are getting very good reviews from everybody. So far I give them an A+ on their dry traction SOOO much better than the shitty tires I had on there.

And my car looks pretty dope with the 1998 GSX 17's

The last set of 512's on the island in my size turned out to have been mounted previously and road tested for 100km (there was just a trace of nubby left on the face and all on the sides) So since they were "used" Rick at  Kal Tire on Sooke Rd. took off an extra $16.00 per tire for me. I ended up paying a grand total of $716.xx Pretty damn good :D

I must recommend that shop now the service was great. 8)

I have AVID A4's, and they SUCK.  Maybe they're a little too worn out sure, but wet traction is non existant, and I still have far too much loss of control in the dry.  It might also be my lack of using the brakes that is a loss of control problem though.
