ticking, sounds like valve lash
« on: November 13, 2003, 02:16:26 am »
I think everyone here knows what the valve tapping sound is like...

its becoming increasingly loud on my car  lately... the funny thing is that if i let it idle for 30 seconds or so it automatically stops, and sounds perfect. oil level is good too.... any ideas?

might be a leak in your manifold that seals after it heats up. might be carbon on your pistons or valves.

You might try some combustion chamber cleaner, it will clean your pistons and valves and you will notice any leaks while using it because it will smoke up from the mani while you spray.

I'm with Robin here, most likely crappy lifters.  I'd wager mine are worse though. Diesel power!!! 8)

I had a killer bad tick before, turned out it was one of the vaccuum solenoids going psycho crazy.  Unplugged it and all was good.

Just pick up one of those $15 stethoscopes from Lordco and have at her.

PS. My god! erica just found 8 mistakes in my spelling, and I only typed 20 words!
