All of my projects lately :D
« on: August 06, 2012, 05:41:00 pm »
So lately Ive been tearing down my motor in my talon and prepping the new motor to install really soon...

Im going to Paint and Polish my new motor to look like the gold and polished aluminum one in the second pic before I install it.

With my spare time Ive also helped my buddy do some cool little mods to his crown vic.

A cheap yet totally functional cold air intake ***works awsome***

And finally.... About 2 years ago my beautiful 1989 Toyota 4runner was stolen from me..  And I was forced to start working on my project car right away!   It frustrated me because I felt rushed to get my talon on the road..   Now my talon is almost complete with a built motor and a ton of new parts...      And My truck and I have just been re-united   :)
Never thought Ide find another one    ;D
Its nicer than my old one!

Kind of a pointless post. But I thought this stuff was pretty cool so I figured Ide post it.
Im just super excited that Im almost done the beast and I get to go wheelin again!  ;D

It is cool!  :)

Must feel good having that 1G engine ready to go.

Also like the poor-man's, but effective, CAI on the Ford.  Bet it runs better without an air filter!  So now you can do sheet metal and duct mods on your 1G (after learning on your buddy's Ford), HaHa!

haha!   Were still going to put a filter on the crown vic     :P
The purpose is just to route cold air to where the filter is situated.
Im fortunate enough to have a large custom 4" aluminum intake on my talon already! :)

Im trying to stay focused on the talon. But my next purchase from RTM racing is intimidating.  lol
Ive got a large order of parts. Including the Heat barrier intake manifold gasket. I look forward to seeing how much that helps with intake air temps.
This weekend I hope to pull my motor and do a manual steering rack upgrade. Ive got the rack built, just need to install it now.
Once thats done, Im painting the block gooooOOOOOLLLLLD

Thanks Joliesa. Its getting really hard to find nice ones. This one has some obvious parts that need to be addressed. The motor has rod knock and its poopy auto.  But the truck came with a manual transmission aswell. Im going to get a low mileage 22re and give this thing life again. As for trans, Im going to get a rebuilt manual trans with a warranty. My old truck had no lift except for rear shackles. My old truck sat on 31's.
This truck has a decent lift with 32's. Should make for some awsome 4wheelin.

Getting Closer..  Just have one minor issue.   The new front passenger axel wont come out  lol.  Its as if the "C"clip is bigger than the bore around the axle.  I spent a long time prying at it and I couldnt get it to pop out.  What would the pro's do in this scenario.  Its not a big deal, as I was able to pull the motor and trans with the axle still in..  but if I ever need to replace that particular axle, it would suck to have to pull the trans apart for that..

I ended up pulling the trans and motor together   :)

Seen that axle problem before. Never did get it out, even after disassembling the trans. We were thinking the splines must have twisted slightly. Good luck!

That would be lame sauce..    But I doubt that's the issue since Im able to slide it in and out a bit.  I think im just going to have to pry super hard and quick.   :-\

Everything is looking good.... as for the axle shaft scenario, I had one where the clip had expanded somewhat.  We ended up getting it out with even pressure on two sides via pry bars and then applied some high frequency vibrations to the shaft.  Worked like a charm.
