Bigger gain: Upper Intercooler Pipe or Intake Pipe??
« on: November 08, 2002, 02:05:10 pm »
On a stock 14b with a 3inch exhaust, hacked air can, and fuel pump rewired what would give me a bigger gain:

3inch SS Upper Intercooler Pipe  or

3inch SS Intake Pipe with stock 1G MAS

My car is in Lowell's nice hands at the moment getting some stuff done. Right now I'm considering adding one of these to the "to-do" list :)

I just put a 2.25 UIC pipe in today at L&R (i was the guy still in his pajamas   ) and it has made a pretty big differnece.  The car runs more efficient, and i get a bit more power cuz i can go to redline without having my EGT read over 1600.

acctually, its a 2.5, and it fits flush with the TB, i don't know why you would want to go any bigger.

ahahah nice pj's dude lol j/k

What mods are you running on your car? I'm leaning towards the intake pipe as to not limit myself if I want to go 20G and front mount in the near future.

UIC pipe or Intake pipe

I would not go bigger than 2.5" on the UIC, even with a 20G.....

Either of those mods should net about the same improvement.   It seems that most people do the UIC before they do the intake pipe.....

Damian, your mission is clear.

Make your engine bay look like Chao's.    :D

Any questions?

PS.  If you are going to use pop bottles, don't use green.....

Im getting 3' to replace my 2.5' exhaust around January, then im gonna drop in a 20g sometime after that. Im gonna go with a FMIC and thats why i didn't worry about the LIC pipe.

IC pipe

Think about which frontmount you plan on buying before you buy your UIC pipe.
If you look at Chao's car he's got his pipe running right from his rad support rather than out the side under the fender and up behind the aircan.
This routing is shorter and easier/cheaper to do.

Most people sell there UIC pipe and have a new one made when they get the front mount.
