Overheating...I think
« on: March 16, 2015, 01:41:14 am »
Well car blew a heater hose was rotted to hell but anyways. Car says temp is high sometimes going around corners it will go up when turning right and down going left :s  but I have taken a temp fun type thing and checked after driving for 20 mins and nothin seems excessively hot, could it be just a bad temp sensor?

if its fluctuating around corners quickly, I would suspect a bad connection on the gauge temp sensor connection (on thermostat housing, 1 pin.

Could be plugged. I dunno man, gotta look at the actual car before making assumptions but a clogged rad will cause overheating when driving.

Pull your hoses off the rad and run a garden hose into it, see what kind of flow is coming out.

I have seen lots of "bad" rads that flow fine, but actually don't transfer the heat properly.  This is usually due to hard calcium like stuff (sorta like you would see develop in your tea kettle) coating the inside tube

Could also be a failed water pump...  (not very common on DSM's to actually not pump water anymore).

Does it get good heat out of the heater?  does it help if you crank the heat on full blast at all?  If so, well could be the rad, or a partially failed thermostat as well.  Thermostat is cheap and easy to replace, or try swapping in a spare rad (don't u have a parts car?, or the rad from your dads car)

There's no thrmostat in the car right now. And we put the ra from parts car in it and didn't seem to make much difference.

Hydro lock ,? No air pockets in your system ? If there are any leaks it would cause fluctuations and make sure the breather nipple on the thermostat is installed in the up position.
