No boost, sounds like a v8
« on: May 31, 2015, 01:41:11 pm »
Was built a year ago then drove it home from RG and parked it. After being parked for a year I finally decided to get it going again so checked all fluids and started it up. Made it about 10 blocks then lost all boost pressure and it won't accelerate past 15k or so. Idles really rough also and sounds like a v8. I'm scared that it's toast again.
Would this be warranty covered you think?

There was no smoke, no leaks.
Thanks

Intercooler pipe came off, throws afr out of wack, makes it impossible to boost.

yeah, are you running it on MAF?  if so sounds like a coupler came off the intercooler piping/intercooler.

(if its on Speed Density, it will still idle fine and just not boost)

The J pipe flange has a hex key bolt but I can't completely tighten it because of the angle of the jpipe...it doesn't allow for inserting the hex key in. I'm guessing it's that?
Will replace it with proper hex bolt and see if that fixes it.

Thanks guys. Will update once it's on there.

Shorten the hex key by cutting it to fix, if you an extra one. It's always handy in other tight spots.

Do a boost leak test (if u have access to air compressor). that will let you know damn quick if it's leaking badly. For smaller "hissing" leaks I use soap and water spray

As far as the jpipe bolt, sometimes putting a standard hex head bolt in there can be really tough to tighten as well. Eddies idea of cutting down a Allen key so it fits is a excellent idea.

Thanks guys.

I tried Eddy's idea but after cutting it, it just would not go in. Cut it perfectly aligned but...with a grinder lol.

I know for sure that the T-belt hasn't skipped a tooth as I've had that happen before and this is quite different.
Yes Brett, am running on MAF.

haven't had time yet (now that we have two kids) hopefully tonight I can give it a shot.

haha wasn't boosting hard...just a teeny tiny bit because I've missed the sound.  ;D

Thanks again for all the help,
Ryan

Update...so ended up having another baby so the car's been parked since the last time I posted about it. I need to get it solved as I am moving this week and have to take it to our new place in Aldergrove.

I will be trying to figure it out this Thursday morning at my current place near 64th and Scott Rd. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

I think I figured it out but still need to take time out to test drive it.

Top jpipe bolts didn't appear to be completely flush.
