Super basic stuff. Like, google it and you'll get some leads.

-Is the clutch adjusted properly? 1G's are of the age where the pivot ball and clutch fork may need replacing due to wear. 1G's are well known for having worn or cracked clutch pedal assemblies that will effect the clutch throw. There is also adjustment available in the clutch pedal - Once again, do five minutes of research on how to make the adjustment.

-What fluid are you running? Redline MT90 and BG Syncroshift are both very good fluids in our transmissions and if you're using junk fluid you'll get corresponding results.

These are DSM transmissions. They're old and not terribly strong. Yours might just simply be worn.

also shifter base cable adjustments and bushings, lubrication.  and on the other end, near the transmission levers.  the base bushings are under the shift boot and the levers are under the hood.  There is good stuff in the VFAQ.  our page has some resources for things like this.

Read thru it, and not only will it be easier for us to help you, but you probably won't even need much help. :)
