Lack of idle on a 1Gb
« on: July 05, 2015, 11:10:30 pm »
These cars never cease to amaze me!  :P  I have had this car running like a top for a couple months now when out of nowhere it decides that it does not want to idle.  It appears on first start to idle a little low but after a minute or two it wants to die.  If I give it throttle it will stay running but as soon as I release the pedal the idle drops off and the car dies.  I'm thinking there may be an ECU demon being that I did switch ecu's at some point, just can't remember when.  I'll look into a swap in the next day or so but I suppose there may a fault somewhere else.

Any quick, on the fly, ideas?

I may have to check out the cam sensor while I'm at it.....  too bad I won't have time to look at it again for a few days.

Boost leaks were a potential problem as was there were a couple of spots that needed attention.  However, I also found that I either have a bad head gasket or a bad valve in cylinder #1.  Leak down test shows leakage from #1 into cylinder #2 but no leakage back from #2 to #1.  This has me thinking more along the lines of a valve...... just need to look at where the #2 valves sit when #1 is at TDC to confirm.  Otherwise the gasket may be split in such a way that the pressure from #2 pushes against it and seals it.... unlikely though.  Either way, it looks like a new head gasket is on the way!

As it is, I can run the car.  Just turned up the idle a bit to compensate until I get a chance to pull it apart.

Oh, yah.... I also found out that I have another headgasket to do on Venom the same day...... FML!
