Title: Life juice
Post by: Aaron dusseault on September 11, 2007, 01:07:08 pm
I guess we are all entitled to 1 stupid question? Does anybody know the shelf life of c16? Mine has been sitting in a VP jug for 2 years and my car is getting tuned soon and I need the magic juice.

opened or unopened?

Unopened, its probably ok, but I don't know for sure.  Opened, I'd say its probably less than optimal.

I'd phone a VP rep and ask them.

I am curious to hear what they will say.  Rumour and speculation says that it will be fine if kept cool and not exposed to light.  Standard 5 gallon jugs will permit enough light through to slowly degrade the fuel.

In my experience with year old C16, it still works FAR better than 94 octane, and I noticed no troubles with it.  In fact year old C12 still worked great (well as good as I would have expected.)

Well  :(  The boy's at VP brought my worst fears to rest. The only way for fuel to stay fresh is to be in a metal sealed container. It loses its umf after as little as a month. Time for the lawn mower.

BTW: My lawnmower really likes C16.  It's amazing the silly thing I will do to avoid having to make another trip out to pick up some fuel. :)
