22psi no fuel cut
« on: May 05, 2003, 05:11:15 pm »
I have a 92 6bolt /4bolt 2.5"exhaust intake and K&N for performance I turned my boost pretty much all the way and I am hitting 22psi without any fuel cut.  I was wondering if there is a reason why I can run 22psi without fuel cut or any problems. Thanks

I would be more concerned about your knocksum at 22 psi.

Hey chris, I'm thinking of getting a logger one of these days and I was wondering what would be a good knock-count to stay below?

RE:  Knocksum

Well, the lower the better.   For street use on pump,  I keep it below 20.  But I like it under 12.   Above 12 and the timing gets retarded.  Knock over 30 and you can feel (by way of the patented Ass-Dyno™) your timing severly retard.

On race gas,  the last time I ran 23 ish psi, I had Xero knock.  Race gas is guuuuuuuuuuddddddddd.

RE: Cables.

You'd have to ask Lowell.   There was a deal on cables a while back.  Internet sales.  I use the laptop, never tried a palm pilot so I couldn't tell you which is better... maybe someone else here has tried both.

unless you have a bottomless pit of money, turn that boost down to around 16-17 psi.  Seriously.  You are going to detonate too much, and hole a piston, or take out a ringland.  Bubuy engine.  Ugly big crunchy noises, lots of smoke, bad smells, no drive anymore, till you pay $$$$$.

Stock fuel system(pump, injectors, ecu, etc) is ONLY good for 16-17 psi at most.  Infact you will loose power due to pulled timing with too much boost.

IF you can log it, you will see, but trust us on this one.  Your car will actually feel faster with a bit less boost.

best of luck and have fun.

John's absolutely right.   For my car it feels faster on pump gas at 16 psi, then it does at 18 psi.

Yep, me too.  Cept for me it seems that 16 with a bit of creep to 17 is the best for me.  But any higher is just crappy.

Weird? I can run 18-19psi and the car goes without a hitch. I have never datalogged it but my G-Tech times improve when I turn up the boost. I only habe a Denso pump for fuel upgrades on a 16G.
