Symtoms for a failed knock sensor?
« on: September 10, 2005, 04:18:27 pm »
I am getting a check engine light that reads code 31 knock sensor, but i was wondering if the knock sensor is causing the rest of my problems or not.  So the problems i am having right now are...the car seems to have no power at all, has a pretty good vibration at 4000 rpm and up, and starts poorly when it is cold?

Thanks for the help
Shawn

Without knock sensor your car will be gutless however not sure about vibration probably not.

actually without the knock sensor it would be better power wize until it detonated badly enough to destroy itself.

Without a knock sensor in there, the timing would advance fully.  I had race gas in once and tons of fuel pulled out of the SAFC and I had 35deg of timing WOT till redline, but that was on C-16.  NOT reccommended on pump ;)

I ran without a knock sensor and I did not see a reduction in performance.  However, I did ground the knock sensor connector so....

With a bad knock sensor (thrown code) the car will run in limp mode and not advance timing at all, will it not?

cool, I stand corrected.  It stands to reason that they would build a failsafe into the system.

well i fixed the knock sensor and the power seems to be back, but prior to this i had the timing belt and clutch done and now i seem to have a bit of vibration that increases with rpm, you can also hear a kinda weird sound(rattle like) when free reving the engine.  this ever happen to anyone else?
thanks for any imput on what may be causing it.

are you driving a 1G or 2G?, I had a rattling problem after my clutch was done. It was corrected when I found that mount near the fire wall was lose and tighten it.

Could the balance shafts be off after the timing belt's where done.  It does casue a weird vibration issue.
