key for Focal F5 rims ASAP
« on: November 13, 2005, 03:37:53 pm »
Recently i realized that i don't have a key for my Focal F5.
Now i need to take the wheels off to do some maintenance work, but i can't move on without that key.
Maybe anyone has the same kind of rims and can lend me the key?
i really need it in the next couple of days

Your key is particular to your lock wheel nut, and has absolutely nothing to do with your wheels.  If you don't have a key number etc, chances are pretty slim you can get a key.  Try a wheel/tire shop.

no, i'm afraid i don't have key number
well.. tomorrow i'll try some wheel shops in my area. I can't really drive around right now cuz my shaft ball joint is f*cked up. And i can't get it fixed unless i remove the wheel. But i can't remove the wheel cuz i don't have the damn key :(

Chances are you're gunna have to buy a new set of lugnuts, and weld a tire iron onto your old locknuts and wrench em off.

From experience not many shops carry proper removal tools.

Head streight to KAL Tire, they have the tools, they charge $10 per lug nut, so if you have one with the key on each tire that would be $40 for all four.

People have used this technique to steal rims with certain locknuts...

You will need:
-Air gun
-Socket your willing to sacrifice
-Hammer

1. Get a socket that is a slightly smaller than the size of the locknut.

2. Take a hammer and hit the socket as it's holding infront of the locknut so it cracks a little to fit over the locknut.

3. If done correctly, the smaller socket should break over and have a good hold on the locknut.

4. Then take a airgun drill and use the power of that to quickly pull out the locknut.

This has worked before, but it also depends how tight the locknuts are.

The hammer and socket trick works pretty good.

Or if you have a flat head socket fitting you can make a flathead groove in the lugnut. Just do it with care and you shouldn't hurt the rim.
