Full 3 inch exhaust for 2g
« on: November 01, 2005, 04:24:54 pm »
well im planning on getting a full 3 inch exhaust put on my 2g, i was just wondering if there are any good exhaust shops or whatever that will make an exhaust for me.  Kinetic maybe?  I will buy all my own pieces like hi-flow cat, muffler, i just want them to basically bend all the piping for me.  Also would this way be cheaper or am i just better off buying a name brand exhaust from a store?

See if you can get ahold of Jordan Gladman if he's still building exhausts.  Good work for a good price.

Ds-map / Jackal, highly recommended.  I've been running it for the last 3 - 4 years.  Amazing improvement in throttle response and overall power under part throttle conditions, and that was with the old maf still in place for 2 years.  Amazing tuning platform in my opinion, and best of all free.

related but unrelated...

anyone have a full 3" exhaust on a FWD?  I'm wondering how the clearance is for the axle back...  I was looking at it today, and it seems a really tight fit between that rear cross member and spare tire well.

also, custom exhausts like this are never cheaper... but you get to use stainless steel, which most brand name ones are not.

Expect $800-1200 for custom exhaust...

i got a custom 3" stainless steel cat-back for $300 on my FWD...i had to buy my own muffler though...i want a 2.5" downpipe but i'm not quite sure how's that gonna work unless they make a cat-converter that has 2.5"-3" inlet-outlet
and a t25 will say, in a wee girlie voice "I am too small, please put me on a D16"

If you want a 3" press bent one places like Hoeggler's Muffler City in Richmond can probably do it quite cheaply, aluminized steel of course.  Matt, seriously, unless if you're pushing big power, there's little enough bends in an AWD exhaust that you won't notice the difference.

oh I know except at the very end and even then you could run it out at an angle, I just had it done that way cuz it was only a bit more expensive. and it nice to be able to see all the welds from the back of the car

I strongly suggest you don't weld the muffler or cat on.

Get the pipes widened for slip fit.  Then you use good clamps. Slip the cat, test pipe or muffler into the exhaust pipe and tighten up the clamps.

thats the way L&R does them on thier $1500 304 stainless systems.  This way you can replace a component without welding. Or fit your cat in place for aircare and take it out for runs at the track with leaded race gas.

and no, they do no leak. There really is no downside.

also, don't bother with a cat back.  The downpipe is probably the worst part on the factory system.  get/build a full turbo back.

And yes a 3" pressbent will be fine, as even a 2.5" system is good for around 400 whp.

thanks for the input John, I already welded on my muffler and cat, but i got a high flo cat on so thats fine, wouldnt be taking it off for racing at the track anyways.  will i be needing a resonator? people have been telling me that it will sound like shit if i dont.
