$70.00 no way/coolant help?
« on: November 10, 2003, 10:27:18 pm »
Went to the dealer today and they quoted me 70 bones to flush my coolant. Has anybody done this on their own. Please tell me how.

not to be mean...

but "12.87 @ 109 mph" is your ET? and you don't know how to flush your coolant???

sheesh... maybe it's just me but i thought that's kinda wierd... anyways

just pull the drain plug at bottom of rad.. let it drain.. fill with water and run car until old coolant is flushed. Then fill with new coolant until fill, keep in mind to get out all the burps

We need a new rule on this board.  No posting of 1/4 Mile ETs without a verified time slip.      That goes for 60's too.......

Non verified times get DELETED.   I'd be happy to do the deleting.......  :moon:

or you can get a tee that goes in the heater hose, has a screw off cap that you put the garden hose on.  plug your hose in there and run til clean.

also, if you take off the pressure cap and thermostat housing, you can clean it up in there really well, and it also drains faster if its off.

I also took the rad out, and replaced the hoses.  When its off you can clean stuff up real well, and stuff a hose up in your engine to really clean it out.

Also if its been a while, get some rad flush chemicals from  a parts place and use that too and then flush it again.  You will see....

the system cannot cool effectively if all the small areas are gunked up.  Gunk doesnt transfer heat as well as metal.

Relax Michael, its all good.

Aaron,  I chose the wrong thread to start venting my spleen.   Shoulda started a new one.

No reflection on Aaron, but lately there's been some "My car runs (insert impossibly good time here)" and ZERO paper work to back it up.

One person later admitted it was a joke, still waiting on paperwork on the other.  Quite frankly if I ran a (insert impossibly good time here), I would have the timeslip bronzed.......

I'm thinking he meant a flush with caustic(sp?) fluids to clean out any crap that may be gunked in there.  Not many people have the fluids needed to do that laying around the house, so I think his question is valid

I think you can get a can of crap at CT that will flush the rad. You pur it in and idle it for 10min then flush normally. I have used it B4 and it seemed to work well as some really crappy brown water came out.

P.S. I can also vouch for Aarons time in his sig as he beat me like a readheaded stepchild the other week. I think he did scan his slip to Andrew S. anyway because he is on the top ten list.

I have always believed in asking alot of questions and relying on friends for valuable advice it makes for a happy Talon. As for my time you want my slip i can provide it to anyone who wants it. My big 16 ported and clipped is not bad but i got fp green / front mount on the mind. that with some tuning should put me in the very low 12s or high 11s.
