fmic piping question
« on: January 15, 2004, 10:58:20 pm »
Im planning to put in my ic soon just doing some research right now.. I was looking at the member pics section & notices that you have to remove the fan behind the radiator to fit the j-pipe & the rest of the ic piping.. is this safe to drive around with that 2 fans off??? new to the engine world but just wondering.. dont want to mess up anything.. whats the purpose for the 2 fans anywayz???

& anyone know where i can get piping for a good price?? please post prices..

sorry if this is a stupid post but.. i had to...

thanks  :D

the fan that you're going to be removing is for the AC.  You can get a slim fan that will fit, and then you can still use your AC but if you're too damn cheap like me, you'll just roll around with your windows down when it's hot (I.E. NOT NOW!!!).  You don't want to remove the passenger side one though, unless getting stuck on the side of the road is your objective

piping for cheap - Jordan Gladman

I only have 1 fan on my car...... the smaller one is for the AC, the bigger on is for the Rad.....  the big Rad one wouldnt fit anymore.. and the AC fan wouldnt fit at all... but the smaller AC fan fit behind the turbo, so I only that one on inside.....
so basically... I just have the small AC fan acting as my Rad fan, and it works fine.... and I took my AC system out so I dont need an AC fan anymore..

hope that makes sense...

i could plumb in an FMIC for about $300. depend how much you actually want.

that would be a 2.5" aluminized setup with connectors.

mr toor could hook you up with some blingin chrome dip too... i think he said his upper pipe cost him $75 to get dipped.

oh boy... :)

yea the coefficient of the coolers efficiency increases in a logarithmic proportionality to its seperation from the horizontal.  Well, before someone gets in here and corrects me, I know its only up to the  point of diminishing returns.  Practically, it is about 7 degrees, passenger side raised upwards.  That is assuming right to left flow and front to back cooling air/air intercooler.  Also it seems more usefull on bar and plate units.

Those in dry, hot areas such as Arizona benefit from a few more degrees due to the less dense air, but here where we have high barometric pressures, and much more moisture per air unit volume, we actually see more gains from about a 5 deg tilt.  Now thats been only tested on a Dynojet tho, and with a fan for airflow, not actual moving car airflow, so your mileage may vary.
