42 psi fuel pressure on a 1G
« on: January 04, 2003, 05:47:19 pm »
After installing my supra pump, the B&M gauge reads 42 psi fuel pressure.  A little higher than stock

I ask the fuel tuning gurus where to go from here?

39 is stock for 1G turbo
many fuel injected cars run a base fp of 45
I've got my car set to 45.   Some people (OzSpeed) have their base FP set 18psi)

EDIT:  Get an adjustable FP regulator if you don't have one.

Where to go from here?
You could get bigger injectors, but then you would need an afc.  It seems that for your turbo you could almost get by on stock injectors (cough, Fraser, cough).....

If you want to run high boost,  then some tuning is in order.  To tune,  you are limited to adjusting fp and hacking the maf.  An afc would be helpful, as would an EGT guage.

To do meaningful tuning, you should have access to a datalogger, or the ultimate would be a logger and a dyno.

To tune for high boost, you need to see your knocksum, and your timing advance.   Regardless of knock (the less the better), timing should be at least above 20degrees.   If your timing advance is dipping below that, turn the boost down after you have exhausted all other ways of reducing knock (ie, richer/leaner).... On pump gas, your car might be faster at 16 psi than it would be at 18psi.

If you are keeping the boost at 16psi or less and you don't feel the "need for speed", you don't have to go anywhere from where you are....

42psi sounds fine to me.

I think Lowell and Tommy set my and my bro's CAS adjustable FPR to 40psi base (30psi at idle with vaccume hose on)

If you have a stock regulator you should have a lot more pressure than that.  65-70 at idle is not uncommon.  The extra pressure can be a good thing with a hacked 1G MAS since it will help richen up the normally too lean idle and off idle.
