I brought the cams to RG they all agreed the Journals are toast. I then bought the cams to Shadbolt Cams and they measured the damaged journals at .003 deep. Overall the damaged cam journals measured were .006 less in diameter than the non damaged cam journal.

Delta Cams says they can spray welded/prep the journal surface @ $25 per journal.
These two journals are the worse of the bunch.
Anybody has any experience with this process? Nobody seems to want to do this locally.
-
Whoa, :o those are some f**ked up journals. Did they came from your car?

If you have them welded up, make 100% sure the cams spin freely in the head. Unless you have some junkyard motor, I wouldn't bother messing around with welded up cam journals. There are already plenty of things that can go wrong with a high HP, high RPM stroker motor...
-
Yikes! Paperweights now, or $1-$2 worth of scrap steel.
Did u buy them used? Or did they come out of your car? I wonder what the journals in the head looked like!
-
Seems to be a rash of bad cam journals lately. Either manufacturing problems or lots of people are having oiling issues.
-
I did my cam swap yesterday, the old HKS had a few scratches on the journals as well, but nothing that excessive.

anybody has a email address so I can send pictures

seems like buying used performance parts off the net never seems to work out very well.
-
Brett is completely right. Its not the online thing that is bad though. its damn near every seller on DSMtuners. The truth is, about 13 out of 20 transactions Ive done with people over DSMtuners, resulted in me getting parts that are either broken or worn or dont match their description.
It would take some desperation for me to buy something from Tuners at this point.
Ill bet someone ran those cams with mismatched cam caps.

Fill out the form on his contact page. Yes, I see no email address so you could attach your pictures. You could paste the link to this forum thread in his contact us form... If anyone can make them work, Geoff can. I think he's honest enough to tell you if the risk is too great to bother either. He has a great reputation on other forums.

I agree with both Lowell and Richard on this one.
While I think Geoff at Colt can do great things and is the only one I would trust for this, I also know that even if you take stock cams and put mismatched, but factory spec cam caps and put them on the head, correctly torqued and lubed, you will probably still run into problems. the tolerances are tight and the "bearings" are just the aluminum of the caps and head.
IF Geoff says he can save them, and if you want to pull your head and have the caps line honed to match the cams, then go for it. if that's even possible. if not, sounds like the end of the line for these ones.

Colt cams says it will be possibly cost prohibitive.
I will bring my cams down to Delta cams for evaluation and possible repairs.
At the same time I will be picking up an new billet Kelford tX-280 profile..
If things work out I will have a GSC S3 cam for a spare.
-
if Geoff says its gonna cost too much to do it right, I would question Delta being able to do it right for much cheaper. Keep in mind your gas costs and time as well.

Not to jacked the thread but Eddie am interested on those cams. ;D ;D ;D

When I dyno the s2 cams, I'll show Lowell the scratches on the 272s for his opinion on how bad it is and if their even worth selling.
-
Delta cams seems to have a good reputation I sold my K272 profile for $400 to somebody in the east.
Delta cams is close to English Racing and ETS too.
I hear English Racing is good at fine tuning big cams for street so I want to see (hear) their S3 cammed DSM cars.
Definitely worth a day trip to visit these 3 places and pickup a cam at the same time.
Maybe I will get to meet Jeff Bush and other high profile DSM's
-
Delta Cams has repaired my cam journals (spray weld).
I did my research into this topic and Delta cams seems to have excellent reputation for this type of work.
I will post finish photos later.
I am looking for a DSM head to do a hand spin test with the cams in place before installing them into my engine.
-
I have some head here.
Let me know when and where.
-
you should really stop giving head Rob!
-
Dan, what did it cost to have the cams repaired?
I have a spare set of fp3 cams that could use a little help on some journals
-
$87 shipped to Pt Roberts... $9 to ship fr Pt Roberts
3 welded journals and polish/finish all cam journals.
-
so all said and done, it was almost $100? seems pretty good deal to me! that includes shipping too!! good deal!
-
Summary.......Lowell Foo ran the S3 cams in his car with no problems.....then sold it to another DSM member ...
As far as I know it has no problems ....
I also bought 272 kelford profile cams......sold to Canada DSM member and he ran and dyno it with decent results.
kudos to Delta cams and their work.....
-
cool, thanks for wrapping this up with some results.
-
I own and have these cams now. been in storage for a few years
-
Good to know...I am using Buschur (updated) cams now..
