hello
« on: August 11, 2011, 10:29:16 pm »
hello to all you DSM drivers, I have been visiting this site for some time and now have taken the plunge and registered.  I will post some pics of my 1g TSi AWD as soon as I learn how.  I look forward to learning more about this amazing machine along side most of you.  I also look forward to coming out to the meets and having a good time.

very cool to have a new member on board.

Where are you living?

As for pics, you have to put them on another site, such as Flickr, etc.

Then you link them here in a post with the image tags.  Pretty simple.

thanks for the welcome!  I do have a question though, I believe there might be a crack on my downpipe.  Can this be welded or should I just replace it?

Depends.
Can you get the welding done cheap? Why did it crack? Figure this out to avoid a repeat. What condition is the rest of the dp in?  How long will you keep the car....etc.
Alternatively, this would be a good time to upgrade if you have a stock dp. I noticed improved throttle response when I did mine.  :)

+1 on Roberts post.

Is it a stocker, or a cheap aftermarket one?  If so, just get it out of there.  Its not worth the cost to weld it unless you are super broke and can do it yourself.

If its a quality aftermarket one, and its just one crack and it can be welded properly, yes do it.  If its a stainless one, find out why it cracked, and talk to the person with the tig welder(IE Lowell or Phil etc) and see what thier advice is.

thanks again for all the warm welcome.  Just to let you all know what has been done to this ride, there is obviously the Apex 2.5" cat back, 2 stage clutch, port polished head, lowered on unknown shock and spring, turbo timer, A-pod 2guage w/boost and air/fuel.  That is all I know at the moment.  So I figured for the price I might as well go for it.  It does need a battery as there is none in the car right now, and the e-brake is siezed in the on postion, other than that is is a very clean ride.

don't drive it with the ebrake siezed.  fix/get that fixed pronto.

its probably the caliper, but it could be the cable too, so just find out.
