new to dsm
« on: August 28, 2012, 03:44:39 pm »
Hi guys

a few weeks ago I finally bought a dsm. I found a almost stock 90 eagle talon tsi awd. it has 250k km and it is burning a bit of oil (I haven't been able to figure out where from). I've changed the oil and done a compression test but I don't know what other maintenance I should do or where to check for oil leaks. Also it is having problems shifting it will not shift without grinding gears. I think its a disengagement issue but I have my clutch pedal adjusted to allow the max travel of the pedal. If anyone can suggest any maintenance I should do or places to check for oil leaks or how to get my clutch acting better im all ears

welcome!!!

Does it blow blue??  or just leak engine oil?

the pedal clusters (under the dash) develop play in them causing clutch engaugement issues in these cars.  You can replace the assembly, or weld it up...  either way it sucks ass working under there backwards and upside down!!

hey thanks for the support guys I went and readjusted the clutch pedal linkage and now I only have a slight grinding when I downshift to second. also when i said it leaks oil I meant blows blue (just a little bit, at idle is the only time its noticeable)

here's a pic for anyone interested

yeah i agree... if it blows blue after u let it idle for awhile... then mostly thats caused by bad valve stem seals.   They are replacable without taking the cylinder head off, but you need special tools and a lot of patience and steady hands.

or pay brett to do it :p

he did mine and did a great job :)

if you do replace them, get a nice set of vitom seals (i used supertech) and do both intake and exhaust while its apart..

the seals will outlast the car that way.. never have to be concerned with them again.

welcome!

I agree, stem seals.  Supertech not needed, but I agree, use Viton(the material they are made of) seals.

I also agree, its a pain to do in the car, but much cheaper than taking the head off...

Wait til your blow your head gasket...its easily to do with the head off..
PS: replaced the HG with an better one.
