Pro charger?
« on: September 12, 2012, 08:10:44 pm »
I don't know if this kinda topic has been discussed or thought about or even done by anyone but
I remember building my esi-t while back and the guy who was helping me with it
Is an old school muscle guy and was always pushing me to look more into a supercharger saying it would be a lot quicker throttle response and how funny it would be to pull up beside someone with a muscle car and just hearing a scream or a supercharger

My point I'm getting at hear is ....is there a application for the 4g motor just wanna finally get more info on the subject😊

go on youtube and look for superchargers on 4g63s. they stick out the hood, theyre kinda crapy with our displacement with no intercooler its just forcing hot useless air in a tiny 500lm bottle hole. Then when you procharge it super charger and turbocharging, it limits the the power. the turbo may spool quickly but then its fighting the rotors on the super charger and they limit what can be forced past them.

so in short. you get a quick spool and through away any type of high end power and make a 1997CC with a power red line of like 5500 rpm.

if you want a quick spool grab a stock head toss a 264* intake and a 272* exhaust cams 4g64 put a 106mm crank on it run it at 11-1 with a lot of meth and a 2.5in 2.5out vband 50 trim with a long runner small plemum intake and a very short piped 2.5inch Vband out with a 38mm wg exmani for 400awhp with quick torqie responce.

hope that answered your question.

Zach are you sure about your cam configuration? Road race says 264 intake and 272 exhaust.

but you can run the 272 in and 264 out and your car will sound like a v8 and will put out the same as 264s.

yea,the thinking with this engine often is not the same as conventional wisdom from other engines.  It doesn't need internal upgrades, or an aftermarket head, etc.  No engine swap is needed ever.  Hell even the stock turbo can get you in the 12s, or even the 11's.

While some basic principles apply such as cold air, no restrictions, etc work, many of the truisms need to be avoided when working with this engine. Many people who may be great at tuning small block domestics will not be the best place to get your tuning advice for these cars.  Old school muscle car tuners mostly hate turbos and love superchargers, and know you need forged internals, huge lumpy cams, aftermarket blocks, heads, cranks, etc.

Not hating at all either, I started out the same way.  Hell my first "mod" was to gap my spark plugs out to 60 thou because I know thats too small a gap. I know thats bs now, but it was conventional thinking on my part.

I ran an Powerdyne Supercharger on a 5 liter ...
While there is no hesitation .......there is no real power til 3500 rpm plus.
Heck this is on a V8.......I hate to see the thing spool on a 2 liter.
Turbine supercharger vs turbos .....no contest in high horsepower.

Now a screw type positive displacement supercharger would work great..
How you fit it on ???
Screwtype superchargers work so great they are banned from NHRA competition.

By the way the bare supercharger is $10,995.00 ...by itself..

Best street setup will be an exhaust driven electrical turbocharger...(instant boost)
BMW already testing such setup...

Just stick with the conventional 16g or 14b setup.  Don't try anything too "different"... U will just end up wasting money

Well if you want 450 whp then a 16g turbo won't cut it (even a HTA68)..

Your going to have to go to like a bolt on 50 trim, or even better yet. Some form of a GT30

yea.  But then many people don't actually realize how much power 450 all wheel hp is.

and there are at least 3 different 16gs that are common, only one of them comes on the Evo 3
