First Day - Bennji
« on: October 22, 2012, 01:39:37 pm »
Hello DSM,

I haven't even picked up my car yet,
But I wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Bennji,
I am picking up a 95 Talon TSI AWD in a couple hours.
It is bone stock, and I can't wait to mod it.

Unfortunately, I have never worked on a Talon before.
I am by NO means mechanically inclined.
I work in Audio/Video and Security/Starters so when it comes to electrical, I can do most of it.
But motors confuse the phuk out of me.

I love to drive, and bought this car for better times on the Auto Cross circuits.

I turned 16 in 2001, just before Fast and Furious came out, so tragically my driving life was raised on too many lights to count and disgusting body kits.
Please don't hate on me for it . . . I know it's not 2001 anymore, but it's a problem I have, and I am trying to get help for it.
LoL

I also used to do graphic design, and have a decal machine at my home, so I am addicted to vinyl.
But you won't see me sporting a huge tribal up the side of my car.

Aside from my terrible taste in modifications, I'm an ok guy.
Ask me anything, I'm fairly open.

Hope to meet you guys soon.
:)

Thanks,
Bennji

Welcome man.
I suggest finding a good technician, who has experience with these cars. You can find them on this board. This is not a terrible car to work on, but its not an easy one either. Once you get in to serious performance you need serious tuning knowledge, technical, and mechanical ability to keep you car on the track. The best part about this board is that you have people at all different stages with their vehicles. You'll find many people in the same boat as you, asking the same questions. Finding this site was probably the best first step to reaching your goals. The archives here hold answers to pretty much all your questions, so use the search function. Flaming is kept to a minimum here, so you may have some friendly banter about your previous modification background, but certainy no one will hold it against you. With that said, I have found over the years that the best way to interact with people on this site is with respect. If you're polite you'll find it goes a long way.
Be sure to throw some pics up of the new ride!
Cheers!

Unfortunately I picked it up after dark, so no good pix yet, but I will try to get some tomorrow.

I had a few friends in BCDSM before, so I knew of the site, but never had interest in the cars, until I drove an AWD, and decided I need one.
:)

Just got back from a fun cruise with the car.
It's good stock, but I can't wait to get some stuff done.

Stoked, will update more tomorrow.

If you really want to autocross, please read these:
http://farnorthracing.com/autocross/tech.html

And really, really read this:
http://farnorthracing.com/autocross_secrets.html

After you've read those twice, look up the CACC classification rules.

If you can, save your money for getting your car into proper competition shape (without modifications).  Eventually you'll want to look for a proper suspension (ideally not lowered very much at all), competition rubber, and some grabby pads.  Save some money for a couple of performance driving courses too.

That post was awesome Bennji, and yes I got hit with the same massive body kit bug. Welcome to the board and the people here are willing to help if you put in the time to ask properly laid out questions. Without BCDSM my car would be all show and literally no go.

Welcome to the club!  Always happy to see new members!

If you are looking for a mechanic...  I always offer my services.  I am a certified red seal automotive mechanic with aircare certification and also government inspector's licence now as well.   I specialize in mitsubishi's and dsm's and back it up with over  8 years of experience working with them.  I am also heavily into modding them, so I can always lend advice on the right steps to make you car fast, and do it right, the first time.  I have my own shop I work out of on my days off, but also offer mobile mechanic services if needed as well.

Thanks, that would be great.
I Live in Maple Ridge, and work in Port Coquitlam.

I would love to hear some ideas on what would be some good mods for these cars.
I've really never looked into them to much, and I am trolling through Google and Youtube to see as much as I can.
My weekend is Monday Tuesday so I am back to work tomorrow, so my time will be focused in different areas.

But I hope I can get to planning for this car sooner than later.
Would love to have a few things done over the winter.
But I got a few bills to pay as well.

I paid for half of the car on my line of credit, and the interest sucks.
So I gotta get the rest of that paid off, then start the mods . . . or take out some more $$ and jsut take longer to pay it all off.
LoL

Sorry,
Here they are.
Again like I said, it is bone stock for now.
So it will make for a good before picture, as things come.
:)

I just cut some decals for the rear side windows.
But it's too cold/dark to install them tonight so I'll be doing that in the AM.
If anyone on here wants you can add me on Facebook.
I'll probably just throw the pix up there tomorrow after I install them.

Actually after looking at these pix, it's kinda funny how you can't see my other car behind the truck in the driveway.
LoL
But the front bumper is half visible, anyone guess what it is?
If you KNOW because you know me, try not to say, I want to see peoples guesses.
;)
