Screw just "keeping up" with DSM's.  Alot of Honda's will kick the shit out of a modified DSM.

yah i have to agree with you on that one...drag or auto-x

They're easier to come across. Parts are everywhere and they are cheap to build up.

If you're going to make a statement like that you have to compare apples to apples.

Stock Honda vs Stock DSM = ?
Stock Honda + $5,000 in mods vs Stock DSM +$5,000 in mods = ?

Yes, there are a lot of very nicely build honda's and they CAN go very fast, both in drag and auto-x, but it doesn't mean that they're faster than a comparable DSM's. Yes a 10.50 honda is as fast as a 10.50 DSM, but how much money and effort did it take to get there? Both gorgeous cars and fast as hell at 10.50, but one has come a further than the other.

The best platform of a DSM is a better platform to build off imo. You put 5K in mods into a talon vs 5K in mods into a honda, i'm betting the DSM will win every time.

I had a honda, i loved my supercharged S2000, it was a rocket and incredibly fun to drive. Bottom line is that to buy the car and put a charger on it and tune it it was probably about 30K (new-ish), when it was done 4 or 5 years ago.

haha the whole start of this thread was to say you need to compare car's that are on the same level and are comparible!

lol

But ANY car can be just as fast as any other car!

If I had 5K to put into a civic.
I'd buy a Acula 3.2L TL Type-S motor, stick it in a civic and run 12's out of the box, lol.
Then if I had money left over, i'd buy a SC for it and see if I can shoot for 11's!

I want to see Ryan buy a civic old school AWD Wagon and turbo it.
That would not only be fast, but it would be funny to see.

well, I was just gonna delete the whole thread because of some immature attitudes, but it looks like its sort of cleaning itself up.

Now I would have to agree with Mr Coft. $ for $ there is nothing that can stand up to an awd 5spd 1g.  Put the same money into the same condition starting car costing the same as the 1g and the 1g will win.

drags, autox, rally, street racing, hill climb, road course etc.  yes you could get a special deal on something, or do all the work yourself if you are someone like Lowell, but equal money, equal time etc, the DSM will be the winner.  AND it will do it with excellent fuel economy and clean aircare papers.

yes you could buy a beatup 76 Nova and put a second hand 454 in it with some cheap speed parts and a set of second hand slicks and it will maybe beat it in the 1/4, but it will DO NOTHING ELSE better.

yes you could get a killer deal on a written off Integra Type R and put some killer suspension and tires and maybe win in the autox, but it won't win in any other arena.

These sorts of examples could go on within limit, but the fact is that $ for $, the 1g awd 5spd DSM will win on account if its engine, awd, basic layout and how really well it responds to mods.
91 Eagle Talon TSi 5spd awd.  GT-12, TriFlow Cams, 850s, Tial, JIC, Jackal, sticky rubber.
86 Merkur XR4Ti 5spd, rwd, turbo, 91,381km.  Original paint, heated leather. intercooled, big VAM, Full 3" exhaust, Cossie sway bar, 16" tires.
06 Mazdaspeed6 6spd awd, DISI turbo, heated leather HIDs, Corksport, Cobb, Konig, Centric...
2018 VW Golf Alltrack turbo Tornado Red, 6mt, some free mods
