Mission Oct 2nd
« on: September 28, 2009, 09:32:26 am »

Think I might go. I've never dragged before either!
Clutch be damned, it should be fun.

 Anyone else?

Well forecast says maybe rain but it keeps getting less likely for rain.
If it's open I will definately be out
A group of people from work as well as some out of town family are going to go watch as well.

Jason where do you live?

Yes but there was very low turnout, so it was an awesome first experience as there was only myself, my friend in his m3 and two civcs until around 7. There were about 10 domestics, so we were running back to back for the first 4-5 runs.

They drop the lights really fast... I didn't expect it at all.

It was extremely cold which helped a lot. I was creeping to 18 psi by redline, holding 15psi most of the way.

My first pass (I've never dragged before, not even really on the street) was 14.9 with a 2.1 60
Then after that i had four runs at 14.7 with 2.03-2.08 60's
then on my last pass I had a 14.649 with a 1.9 60 :)
Trap was between 86-88 every pass.

No context at all for these, but I'm very happy with the car. Last run I let the clutch out around 4k with about 75% throttle and slowly added more throttle as the revs dropped.
I was grudge racing my friend in his e36, and every run I had him until the 1000ft, then he would always pull on me for the last few hundred feet. We ran within 2-5 tenths each run with his fastest being 14.4.

Not bad for a pretty much stockish talon! (exhuast and boost controller right??)

With those traps you can tell its suffering a bit on the top end.

at 15 + psi i bet it was knocking quite a bit and pulling timing out.  Did you have a datalogger or anything to check knock counts?

I bet if you turned the boost down to 12-14 psi.. (creep owns you right now tho) you would notice the car pull better up in the top end.

My 1990 talon awd pulled 100 MPH trap with just exhuast, fmic, fuel pump and a mbc.  (oh and a 2G throttle body elbow).  That was at around 16-17 psi of boost.

Definalty look into getting rid of knock... and i bet you will see a big improvement the next time you go out.

Nice job tho!! Good to see you got the beast out to the track!!

I agree with Brett.  There is no way you can't trap 95+mph  My Dads bone stock Volvo 760 turbo(2.3 SOHC) automatic traps a consistant 88-89mph.

your car is knocking in 3rd and 4th for sure.

put a cat in the exhaust and it will stop creeping on you, I fought that for a while.  Didn't know why, took everyones advice and took out the cat and it was slower.  Put it back in and it was faster.

When I got a datalogger, I could see why.  35-43 counts of knock and 7-9deg timing  :(

13.8 at 100 or so with just exhaust(with cat), some airbox work and about 16 psi.  I did concentrate on getting lots of cold air in the airbox and more thru the intercooler, so that may explain why I could get lower knock at a few more psi, but still, your car will be faster(and not bust a piston) if you can turn the boost down.

Good job on getting out tho, its fun no?  And nights like that where there are not many people, you get lots of practice in.  My second nite, I got in 11 passes, I just finally went home because I was bored.

My 2G with its mod's and the 7 bolt @ 15PSI would only get to 99MPH w/ 1.8 60 foots.

Heavy boat!

My ECU showed up yesterday!

So I can do an oil change today, put the ecu in. Check some vacuums I think are bad and tune it a bit.
Hopefully can make last track day of the season!
