Planning your upgrades, good broad outline and advice
« on: October 23, 2011, 10:10:09 pm »
Very comprehensive and concise advice to plan your build.

http://www.audifreaks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26

Focuses on the 1.8l, but much is universally applicable.

This link has many compressor maps: http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/turbotech.html

Thought I would refresh this post with another link.

Lots of depth without getting too technical.

Enjoy.

Sticky.   Good info.  A lot of questions can be answered based on these write ups.   I did however find a hiccup in the first link.   When they describe the new GTX turbos,  they claim its a 10 blade wheel when its actually an 11 blade design.

Ill be adding a few really good write ups to this.

This particular one outlines the necessary tasks to cover before getting your car tuned. It oulines the importance of each component briefly, but you get the idea of what needs to be done before attempting to make good numbers.

I also came across this one regarding exhaust systems and the misconceptions of how they work.

Lots of good links at tuners.

I liked the back-pressure link.  Simple and explains the minimal trade-offs when going to a larger exhaust system.  When they used NASCAR drafting as a concept to explain pulses I thought it was strange that they didn't include how to route an exhaust system to lower drag and improve down force for track use?

A lot of stuff in Nascar is SECRET......eg oval shape even chambered exhaust systems ...manifold and head designs....How their motors can suck air through a restriction plate. And they make high HP with very little fuel..

They can keep all their Nascar knowledge to themselves.   :)

Nascar < Rally/Drag/Circuit

And There is a ton of info on the techniques used by almost every other form of race car.

It cool to see the advanced engineering that goes into the race cars to give them an edge.
