lower octane fuel has a bit less energy per "bang" as its slower burning, but it controls ping/knock better, so you have to decide if you need the timing or the energy of the burn more.

Brett I would chalk the 15hp difference up to the margin of error of measuring things on a dyno.
On most cars there is a 5-10 hp difference per run. Dans car makes so much power, it makes sense that from one day to another it's 15hp off.

I thought higher octane burned slower.
In fact i'm pretty sure on that - it's how it prevents knocking, by having the release of energy occur over a larger timeframe, preventing drastic and sudden increases in cylinder pressures.

wow, super inefficient at anything under 27psi by the sounds of it...if you can call 531awhp inefficient.

Dan's car made 653whp on 6 or 7 consecutive pulls.  Amazing consistency for a high powered setup.

As for the different pump gas octanes, the power difference had more to do with timing, and 525whp is a safe and slightly detuned power level on 94 octane.  Detuned on race fuel, the last two pulls were 649 and 648.
92 Laser AWD, 50 trim, 494whp
92 Talon AWD, 50 trim, 11.55 @ 127mph w/ 399whp.
90 Talon AWD, 11.40 @ 123 ~ 10 years ago.  Currently in storage.
