I am migrating all of my stuff to a new server as the old one was a bit whacky. I'll let you know when i'm "done" and then you can start complaining about broken stuff :)
-
All should be well now. Commence the complaining :)
-
wow that was fast. good call!
-
I'm speedy like that. Server should be faster now as well. Did some tuning on the database its dropped in size from 191MB to 38MB, should make for speedier queries.
-
Wickeddddd. Yeah every time i go to come on to get parts or see my pm's its lie fackk down again... But its all good

That will change with the new server. I ditched the control panel and a bunch of other apps that were just getting in my way and causing things to fail. I may set up monitoring to text message me when something goes down but I'm burnt out now.
-
thanks for all ur work joel!
-
Nicely done man!! Have a beer or 3 on us ;)
-
I don't really know what you did but its seems like it was a good thing. So good on yeah.

You guys are very welcome. None of you should notice any changes and if you do I probably screwed something up. I'm now able to offer email addresses @westcoastdsm.ca or @bcdsm.westcoastdsm.ca if any of you're interested.
I know someone purchased bcdsm.org a while ago but I havent heard back in some time... so unless someone buys a new name we're stuck with this domain.
It will require a bit of setup so if say 5-10 of you want an email address i'll set it up. On a happier note I finally found a new ash tray my 4th this year .

So today I resigned from my position meaning my free server will be no more as of the beginning-end of November. I can keep the hosting account for ~$50.00/month and was wondering if any of you would like to chip in on that? Alternatively if someone else is willing to host the site I can provide the database and possibly some assistance in getting things running.
Sorry for the short notice its been a stressful few weeks for me :-\

so what does this mean? if nobody takes it over....no more bcdsm website ?
-
Pretty much unless one of my coworkers will host it. I have some other hosting for a client of mine so I may be able to move it to that server..

:O omg I hope the site doesnt go down..this is like my bible lol
-
thats some shitty news for sure :(
-
I will try to work something out. I'm still looking for employment on the island (preferably nanaimo). If I can find decent employment I wont have a problem paying for the server... I'll do my best to keep the site up in some form or another.
-
The board is safe for now. There may be a few hiccups as I'll have to move it to a new server, performance may not be as great but the important part is it will exist.
-
Thanks Joel. Whatever circumstances of yours changed, i'm glad they did this way :)
-
No real circumstance change on my end it's just time to leave the Okanagan and follow my dream of living on the Island :)
I'll always do my best to keep this board online, its as important to me as all of you if not more so.
-
great news.
And on that note, its probably not out of line to ask if members wanna toss you a couple bucks now and again for server costs. If even half of us give you $10 you could put a big dent in the server costs I would guess?
-
Well server costs are roughly 50.00 per month so it's not really that bad just that I wont have a job right away when I move there so money will be tight.
I'd never ask for money unless we were going to lose the board. I will take a starter if someone has one though lol.
-
well, if you don't get a job right away, we can take up the server costs for a month or 2 I am sure.
-
Joel, I will give the first $20.00 to help out. PM me if you need it :)
-
We're safe for now. I've been hosting a few business sites on here as well and they are going to pay for the server. The forums resource usage is low so as long as we dont affect their performance all is well.
-
If you need any help with the site costs, just say so.
I never realized what the cost was to keep it up and running.
-
set up some sort of paypal account or something so we can pitch in!
-
that's the spirit Joel! just find some big server and say "hey there's also this other, small, insignificant little server that needs taking care of too. we'll just tack it on to yours.... it'll all be good, don't worry"
-
I'll work on getting a paypal account setup in the next few weeks.
-
There may be a few hiccups as I'll have to move it to a new server, performance may not be as great but the important part is it will exist.
I noticed that the "view messages unread since last login" link has disappeared, although directly typing the URL to generate it still works.
But anyhow no biggie... I'm definitely NOT complaining :) Just want you to know that so many of us appreciate this resource, and it's all thanks to you!! ;D
-
Life is madness right now but I'll look into that when I get a chance.
-
I definitly agree to the whole help out to pay for the site thing. Makes total sense,
we all are enjoying the liberties of this wonderful forum.. but no one is helping out to pay
the 50 dollars a month, that could definitly add up! If you need any help, set up a paypal
account and start asking for donations! Im sure at least half of us would be more than happy
to pitch in.
-
I didn't know it cost anything to host it but it's only fair that everyone pitch in
$50.00 is that awkward amount, it's not much but still enough where you know you could use it. If everyone pitches in or even some of us it'll be like nothing :)
-
thanks guys but no need, we raised enough money at the FVT this year to cover the hosting (and I host it now, not Joel)
come out to the next FVT if you want to support the forum, buy some hotdogs and clothes/stickers.
Lifetime memberships to BCDSM can be assured by dropping off a 100gallon drum of methyl hydrate at my house :)
-
Lifetime tech support can also be assured by dropping off goodies like that at my place too ;)
Good on ya Ryan for keeping it going :)
-
I don't have any 1G goodies for you but I do need help Mr. Techsupport. Only about half of my PM's go through. Please help :)
-
not that kinda tech support :)
for fixing your car, not the server.
-
Lol you're in luck John I need some help with that too lol ;)
-
Haha @ John
-
bite me :D
a flat of goodies is yet to be dropped off at my house
-
Lol I have some wicked tail lights that won't fit your car and suspension that is useless to you lol any of this appealing to you lol
-
hahaha, way to talk him into it Vanessa! lol, I can just imagine the look on John's face if you gave him this stuff.
-
Lol I think he would be stoked lol Who doesn't like free stuff.....Even if it is useless lol
-
LOL, so true!
