All you need to know, this is pretty recent stuff:
New Visa requirements for Landed Immigrants in Canada
On Friday, the Unites States Embassy announced changes to the existing visa requirements for landed immigrants in Canada from British Commonwealth countries and Ireland travelling to the United States. As of March 17, 2003, landed immigrants in Canada from British Commonwealth countries and Ireland must possess a valid passport and non-immigrant visa to enter the United States.
Currently, landed immigrants in Canada from British Commonwealth countries and Ireland do not need non-immigrant visas to enter the United States; this exemption will no longer be effective as of March 17, 2003. Landed immigrants from the following countries will be affected by this regulation change:
Antigua and Barbuda Bahamas Bangladesh Barbados Belize Botswana Cameroon Cyprus Dominica Fiji Gambia Ghana Grenada Guyana India Jamaica Kenya Kiribati Lesotho Malawi Malaysia Maldives Malta Mauritius Mozambique Namibia Nauru Nigeria Pakistan Papua New Guinea Samoa St. Kitts & Nevis Seychelles St. Lucia St. Vincent & the Grenadines Sierra Leone Solomon Islands South Africa Sri Lanka Swaziland Tanzania Tonga Trinidad & Tobago Tuvalu Uganda Vanuatu Zambia Zimbabwe
Effective immediately, Consular Sections at the American Embassy and American Consulates in Canada will accept non-immigrant visa applications, at a cost of USD $100.00, by mail or in person from landed immigrants who are affected by this change. The US Embassy warns that some applications may take up to 60 days to process.
Note: Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, Brunei and the United Kingdom participate in the Visa Waiver Program. Citizens of these countries will not require non-immigrant visas when visiting the United States for business or tourism during stays of 90 days or less, but will require all other types of visas (e.g. student, work visas). Canadian citizens are not affected by this policy change - Canadians holding valid passports do not require non-immigrant visas to enter the United States.
