Boost Gauge Question
« on: October 05, 2006, 06:38:19 pm »
So when my car was stolen they ripped the boost gauge out of the dash, its an (Autometer run of the mill boost gauge), in turn ripping the hard line out of the back of the gauge, now i am having troubles getting that little bastard to stay in there and it doesn't seem to seal at all.  There is a fitting that the hardline goes through which threads onto another fitting which then threads onto the gauge, is there something i am missing to make that hardline stay in and seal.  Also noticed that the needle is more pointing towards the PSI side of the gauge rather than the in/HG, and i do remember John Hartman seeming to have this problem and having to get a new gauge, so i am figuring when they ripped it out of the dash they threw it on the floor or gave it a good jarring.
Thanks
Dan

I didn't have this same problem.  My gauge was busticated internally.  It sat at full vac all the time, in the car, full boost, out of the car, in the garbage can, always full vac.

Anyways, I believe your problem is that you might be missing the little brass fitting that goes over the white plastic line.  This gets "crushed" by the fittings when they get tightened up.  This seals that end of the setup.

I'm not sure where to get them.

PS, I THINK they are called ferrules, but I might be wrong.

John may be right. There is an 1/8th" ferell that is on the nylon line. It may need to be replaced. They're super cheap.

Mopac has an autometer kit that comes with only the nylon line and 2 ferrules. p/n 3222 or 3223. My line had a kink in it which caused a leak, so I cut it and used these and it worked pefect.
